PLUS: Game Report: Summertown @ Loretto

On Monday, we headed to Perry County for the continuation of the 12A district tournament. We caught the very end of the Wayne County and Collinwood game, where a young Wayne County arm stood out, and then saw Loretto play Summertown in its entirety. Read up on a standouts, such as 2020 RHP Blade Tidwell, who struck out 16 in a complete game shutout:

BLADE TIDWELL / RHP / SS / LORETTO, TN / 2020FB (89-93), CB (72-76), SL (77-80), CH (74-78) - 0-2, BB - 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 16 K Tennessee commit was dynamic, adding a SL from when we saw him last year that flashed plus, recording 12 straight outs via the strikeout at one point. Tall, athletic, long and lanky frame w/ some lean strength, projectable. Has just scratched the surface of his frame potential. Pitches from a full wind-up into H ¾ release from the first base side of the rubber. Downhill w/ extension. Super quick arm w/ loose arm action. Flashes ability to get lower half involved, drive off the back leg. Simple, repeatable delivery. True FB shows occasional short cut. Tight medium downer CB w/ proper shape, rotation. Blended with his tight ¾ tilt SL at times. CB flashed above average depth w/ late bite. SL was true late breaker, taking a hard left turn from the pitchers perspective at times. At it’s best when it was a true plane breaker and not a straight downer. Both breaking balls were nearly unhittable on this day, as he generated 4 swing and misses on 5 swings against the CB and 15 of 19 on the SL. CH w/ fade and sink, mixed in 4, all to LHH’s and generated 3 swing and misses on 3 swings against it. Around the zone, consistently pitched ahead in the count (70 of 97 for strikes).
