Gage Gregory, 1B, Goodpasture, 2017
Gregory is a 6-foot-4, 200-pound, right-handed hitting first baseman who is establishing himself as a young prospect with promise in the Volunteer state.
At the plate, Gregory hits from a slightly crouched, open stance with a smooth, quiet load and short toe tap stride. He can consistently square the ball with good lower half torque and fluid rhythm. His uphill swing path produces lift to go along with good bat exit velocity of 86 mph showing he can drive the ball well, especially in the gaps. Gregory flashed occasional power during batting practice at the Fall Top Prospect Games event where he also went 1-for-4 in game play with a sharply hit line drive single to right field.
Defensively, Gregory shows good footwork and sure hands at first base with natural instincts. His short arm action through high- 3/4 arm slot and 72 mph arm velocity produces accurate throws.
Gregory saw considerable action for his Goodpasture squad last spring and should be primed for a breakout sophomore season.
