Player Spotlight: South Doyle 2015 Catcher Cody Ott

By Doug Hall
Tennessee Director of Scouting

Cody Ott, C, South Doyle HS, 2015

At 5-foot-9, 165 pounds, Ott may be considered by some to be a bit undersized for the catcher position, but he impresses with his catch-and-throw skills and athleticism behind the plate.  At the Tennessee Smokies Showcase, Ott recorded one of the top pop times of the event at 1.97 with a quick release, clean exchange, and good footwork.   He rounds out his defensive skills as a solid receiver of the baseball.

At the plate, Ott, a right-handed hitter, uses his hands well and displays the ability to hit line drives to all fields.  He also posted a 7.4-second 60-yard dash and topped out at 83 on the mound at the Tennessee Smokies Showcase.  In the classroom, Ott maintains a 3.0 grade point average.
