Preseason All-State: Pitcher Reports
February 21, 2019
On February 3, Showtime Sports Academy hosted some of the top uncommitted players in the state across 4 graduating classes (with all 4 grad classes represented on the below statistical standouts). Pitchers threw anywhere from a 10 to 20 pitch pen depending on where they were in their build-up to the season. To read up on standouts, including a 90 mile per hour arm, read below:
JAMES SELLS / RHP / 2B / FRANKLIN COUNTY, TN / 2021Max FB: 90, FB (87-89), CB (76-78), CH (82-85) 6-0, 176-pound righty continues to just keep getting better every time we’ve seen him, culminating with his final FB of his pen touching 90. Medium, athletic frame w/ well-proportioned lean strength, projectable. Pitches from a full wind-up into ¾ release from the first base side of the rubber. Simple, repeatable delivery w/ super quick arm. Angle. FB shows occasional short arm-side run. Medium downer CB flashed tight rotation, late bite. Chance to be a put-away pitch. CH was better at 82, where it showed fade and sink, as opposed to 85, where it was firm w/ short sink. Chance for 3 above average offerings as he develops. Around the zone w/ 3-pitch mix, shows ability to pitch to both corners with the FB, throw his secondary pitches for strikes. |
