Ravenwood 2015 3B/RHP Bryce Denton Discusses His Commitment to Vanderbilt

By Doug Hall
Tennessee Director of Scoutingdenton

Last month, Ravenwood High School's Bryce Denton committed to continue his education and baseball career at Vanderbilt University.  It's been a whirlwind summer for Denton who played summer ball for Team Elite Prime from Atlanta and was selected to participate in the East Coast Pro Showcase in Syracuse, NY this past weekend.  Recently Denton had a chance to discuss his commitment to the Commodores.

PBR:  What was it about Vanderbilt that made it feel like the right fit for you?

Denton:  Just that it was really close to home and gave me the opportunity to play SEC baseball with one of the best, if not the best, coaching staffs in the nation.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Denton: The schools I was considering were Tennessee, NC state, Oklahoma State, MTSU, or the JUCO route.

PBR:  Where did the coaching staff first see you compete?

Denton:  I was a sophomore at Ravenwood playing against Vanderbilt standout Bryan Ryenolds, and they were there.

PBR: What role does Coach Corbin expect you to play during your first year on campus?

Denton: I don’t really know. I know he likes how I can do many different things at a high level and my expectation going in is to give myself the best shot to succeed. As a player, that’s the only successful attitude that works for me.

PBR:  Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Denton: Definitely my father. He was always there. My brothers and I’s number one supporter on the baseball field. He was great because he made us love it on our own without forcing us to do anything but was always available to go help us and make us better.  When he passed it made me a little bit more mature, made my heart bigger, and made me want it more.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most exciting experience playing summer ball?

Denton: I play for Team Elite Prime out of Atlanta Georgia and my most exciting experience had to be getting selected to go to Syracuse for the East Coast Pro showcase and playing at the top of my game.

PBR: What are your goals for your upcoming senior season?

Denton: I don’t set player goals for myself. I do not want to put a limit on what I am doing! As a team with Ravenwood we are going to be working very hard this offseason towards the goal of getting back to the state tournament with having success there.

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter you have faced in Tennessee?

Denton: Chase Chambers from Farragut this year was a tough out.

PBR: Who was the toughest pitcher you faced in Tennessee?

Denton: By far Donny Everett. There is nobody else in this country that can throw the ball like he can.
