TN/KY Challenge - TN Writeup

Tim Kay
PBR Tennessee Director of Scouting

On Friday and Saturday, we hosted the TN/KY Challenge, featuring teams from Tennessee and Kentucky.  On Friday, we were on site for Arlington vs. Bowling Green, an inning of Arlington vs. Henderson County and the Farragut vs. Mt. Juliet game before it was rained out in the top of the 4th.  On Saturday, we were on site for the Farragut vs. Hendersonville game and the Farragut vs. Henderson County game.  Friday featured solid weather until the rain hit.  Saturday featured wintry conditions w/ occasional snow.  These will be briefer write-ups, as we previously saw Farragut hereand Hendersonville here and here.  For a look at the Tennessee teams we saw and some video highlights, read below (and check out the Twitter feed for video highlights):

3-6, 2B

Vanderbilt commit plays the game at a different speed than everyone else.  Medium, athletic frame w/ present strength, some physical projection, well-proportioned frame.  Offensively, hits from a slightly open, slightly crouched stance w/ hand and front leg rhythm into short stride and short load.  Generates premium bat speed through the zone w/ natural loft.  Power to all fields, strong forearms, extension allows ball to jump off the bat.  Pull-oriented approach.  Projects to hit for average and power at the next level.  Defensively, features soft, super quick hands w/ good feet.  Solid internal clock w/ ability to know how much time he has before he makes a throw w/ above average arm strength.  Never out of control defensively.
