December 9, 2020
Our PBR Staff recently released the 2021 National Rankings as 2020 comes to a close, which featured 18 Senior Tennessee prospects. For the TN state rankings, we'll be doing some winter cleaning, making minor adjustments as we figure in all the new fall data, while expecting a full press release in early 2021. To preview, we breakdown scout notes on eight uncommitted senior risers, who prep for a big Spring campaign.

21' Risers: Scout Notes
Matt Sweeney, OF, Cookeville, 2021
5-foot-9, 170-pound uncommitted outfielder with proportional frame and improving physicality. Gets great burst as a 6.73 runner and can track it well in all three outfield positions. At the dish, simple balanced stance with short load, getting on plane early and often (81-86% on plane efficiency per Blast). Well rounded blast data with above average bat speed and strong rotational acceleration. Smooth bat stroke spraying line drives to all fields with some loud contact (Max exit velo: 91.3 mph; Distance: 336 ft per Trackman). Flashes of gap to gap power, but a strong runner wanting to use his legs for doubles. Average arm strength, profiling him as a LF/CF at next level with above average defense and handling the stick in the order. High motor prospect, who has been dedicated to his work process and steadily improved throughout 2020.
Bobby Bevis, RHP, Ravenwood, 2021
Uncommitted; 6-foot, 160-pound right hander is returning from a 2019 Tommy John surgery and has a slender proportional frame plus a whippy arm. Pitched well at 17U National Championship this summer. Pitches from 3B side with closed landing and arm works to 3/4 slot bearing down on righties. Good rhythm in delivery and smooth arm action that whips through acceleration. Approximately a year out from surgery at that point, FB sat 82-85 with late life and slight arm side action. Good ride through the zone, beating barrels up, then pairing with biting 11/5 CB at 68-71. Rounded mix with CH at 76-78 to neutralize lefties. Still getting feel for return to gameplay, but with another offseason to get stronger, Bevis looks to have a big senior campaign with increasing expectations.
Brycen Denton, LHP/OF, Hardin Valley Academy, 2021
Uncommitted; 5-foot-11, 188-pound southpaw has continued to make steady progress with his game. Strong pitchability with good command of mostly two-pitch mix. Quick, compact arm and hides the ball well through delivery. FB up a tick at 80-84 with slight sink and jumps on the hitter. CB with 1/7 action at 71-73 mph, which he throws for strikes and can bury for chase. Good athlete spending time in the OF as well, but his future looks to be on the bump.
Braden McFarlin, OF, White House Heritage, 2021
Uncommitted; 5-foot-9, 175-pound outfielder has made steady improvements over the past year and slowly working himself into a prospect. Proportional frame with some athleticism and present strength. Gamer-mentality, but well-rounded skill set to be a collegiate corner outfielder. Improving arm strength at (81-82 OF Velo) and solid wheels (7.34 sixty), but plays up in the field with above average tracking into the gaps. At the dish, balanced stance with short load and small leg kick. Generates above average bat speed (Max: 71.5 mph per Blast) and efficiently moves through the zone to generate his pop. Flashes of gap to gap power (Max: 323 ft per Trackman), but consistently barrels up the ball (Max: 93.75 mph; Avg: 83.53 mph per Trackman) and can spray it to all fields. Limited in frame and positional, but a high motor senior prospect, who can contribute at the next level.
Cameron Greathouse, RHP, Rossview, 2021
Uncommitted; 6-foot-7, 175-pounds towering right-hander with long, lanky limbs caught my eye at Mid South State Games in June. Greathouse sat 78-83 with a 67-69 mph CB as he worked through a tough lineup in a gutsy start, limiting damage to keep his team in the game. The frame was very Kyle Wright like, and you could see the potential blossoming as he got more innings under his belt. At Lakepoint in July, his FB sat 81-86 using his frame more efficiently while still showing some feel for his 67-69 CB with 11/5 action. Gangly delivery with a lot of knees and elbows coming at the batter, but works up to high 3/4 slot and good extension. A high-ceiling righty arm, who will be a very intriguing follow this Spring.
Tanner Langley, RHP/3B, Overton, 2021
Uncommitted, 6-foot-1, 195-pounds boxy, proportional frame with present strength. Quiet, repeatable delivery with strong balance point while arm works up to 3/4 slot. Long, but quick arm action while hiding the ball well until it comes out the hand. FB has sat 82-86 (1885-2178 rpm) with slight sink and shows ability to win battles up in the zone. Nice pitch to build off, but certainly more in the tank with improved engagement in lower half. Mixes 11/5 biting CB at 68-70 (2243-2342 rpm) which creates good pitch movement separation. Difficult to pick up off FB with no hump and can bottom out at times for S/M or chase down in the zone. Positionally, solid at 3B and can handle the bat with some strength and bat speed, but future projection is leaning to the mound.
William Zebick, RHP, Tullahoma, 2021
Uncommitted; 6-foot-2, 175-pound lanky, lean frame with good projection. Big, long arm swing creating strong leverage with the front side; then working nicely downhill into a soft square landing. FB made a jump in velo, sitting 83-86, T87 with arm side run. Commanded nicely to the glove side. Leaned on his 65-67 mph 12/6 CB, which had good shape and consistently threw for competitive strikes. Long awaited velo bump for the high-upside Zebick, who showed a solid 4-pitch mix in 2019 at Top Prospect Games. Mostly working two pitches this fall, but the return of his SL could round out his arsenal with a true put away pitch.
John Tomlinson, LHP, Lebanon, 2021
Uncommitted; 6-foot-3, 165-pound left-handed pitcher, long, lanky frame, athletically built, showed a lot of feel on the mound, controlled the zone with his fastball, found the edges of the zone and located effectively. Previously, shown the ability to mix three offerings while pitching in the low 80s, but a velo uptick across the board has Tomlinson surging. Arm plays short and loose to a high ¾ slot, creates deception hiding the ball well on the back-side. Fastball sat 83-85, touched 86. His offspeed is showing improved velocity as well with the CB at 66-71 and CH at 75-77, allowing those to play up a bit more by getting more action/bite. Not many mid-80s lefties on the board for the senior class, so top prospect in the uncommitted market.
