Tennessee Pitcher of the Week: Powell 2016 LHP Peyton Alford

By Matt Byrd
Director of Scouting

Last Monday night, Peyton Alford was perfect.alford

The junior left-hander, from Powell HS, took the mound against Clinton in a District 3-AAA matchup and turned in a dominant performance in a 3-0 victory. Alford fired a perfect game with nine strikeouts to lead the Panthers to the win over their District rivals.

Alford had just one three-ball count all night, a full count in which he ended up retiring the hitter. The closest Clinton came to a base runner during the contest was a ground ball hit to the backhand side of shortstop Riley Cooper. Cooper's throw to first was high and up the line, but first baseman Noah Malicote was able to apply the tag on the runner to record the out.

For Alford's stellar performance on the mound, he has been selected as the PBR Tennessee PItcher of the Week for March 23-28.
