The Rode Show: 2018 Future Games Day 4

Nathan Rode and Shooter Hunt

WESTFIELD, IN—The 2018 Future Games concluded Saturday and a couple big offensive performances made for a two-man race for the most valuable player. Ultimately, SS Aaron Downs (Pella HS, IA) was anointed MVP after he collected two triples, a double, five walks and seven stolen bases while leading Team Iowa/Minnesota/Nebraska to a 3-0 record. Downs was one of the top standouts on the workout day, showing athletic actions for the middle infield and a compact stroke with strength at contact. He is the third member of Team Iowa/Minnesota/Nebraska to win the award in the last four years.

Also in the running was 3B Reuben Church (Maryville HS, TN), whose strength, bat speed and launch angle make for impressive power. Also a standout during the workout, Church launched a home run on Friday and then went to the opposite field for a no doubt grand slam on Saturday.

3B Max Wagner (Green Bay Preble HS, WI) continued his assault on the baseball Saturday, smoking a lineout to center field and singling through the left side. On the mound, RHPs Storm Hierholzer (Lake Travis HS, TX) and Tyler Chadwick (Marshall HS, WI) had strong innings.
