Top Prospect Games Spotlight: Halls 2017 SS Bryce Hodge

By Matt Byrd
Director of Scouting

We continue to take a look at players who will be participating in the PBR Tennessee Top Prospect Games at the University of Tennessee on June 9-10. The event affords players the opportunity to showcase their abilities in a combination showcase/game play event and will feature some of the top uncommitted Class of 2016 and 2017 players in the state.

Bryce Hodge has attended multiple PBR events and his impressive performances have earned him a spothodge on Team Tennessee in the Prep Baseball Report Future Games. Hodge, a class of 2017 INF from Knoxville Halls HS, generates good bat speed and possesses power that makes him a serious threat at the plate. He was an extra-base hit machine for Halls this spring as he racked up 10 doubles, two triples, and five home runs while driving in 38 runs for the Red Devils. Below is a look at his scouting report from the Preseason All-State Showcase in February.

2/7/15- The 6-foot-1, 188-pound SS ran a 7.44 60-yard dash time and had a 77 mph position velocity across the infield. Defensively Hodge had soft hands and fluid footwork, showed natural instincts and a clean exchange, can improve some with lateral quickness, likely projects best currently as a 3B at the next level.  At the plate Hodge hits from a balanced setup with a leg kick involved, showed good balance and good bat speed, has good extension through contact and has the ability to hit for power, Hodge had an exit velocity off the tee of 89 mph.

Hodge, currently ranked No. 14 in Tennessee’s 2017 class, will participate in the Top Prospect Games as a SS.
