Top Prospect Games Spotlight: Hardin Valley 2016 RHP Tyler Thompson

By Matt Byrd
Director of Scouting

We continue to take a look at players who will be participating in the PBR Tennessee Top Prospect Games at the University of Tennessee on June 9-10. The event affords players the opportunity to showcase their abilities in a combination showcase/game play event and will feature some of the top uncommitted Class of 2016 and 2017 players in the state.

Tyler Thompson participated in last year’s PBR Future Games as a member of Team Select that included thompsonplayers from multiple states. The lanky 6-foot-5, 180-pound Thompson impressed with a fastball that sat 87-89 mph and he mixed in a 68-69 mph curveball and 74-77 mph slider to keep hitters off-balance.  While he struggled some with his command early in his first outing, Thompson recovered to strike out the side and escape a bases-loaded jam unscathed.

Thompson, currently ranked No. 5 in Tennessee’s 2016 class, remains uncommitted, and his velocity was slightly down this spring. He will be looking to re-establish himself as one of the top few uncommitted arms in the state at the Top Prospect Games event.
