By Doug Hall
Tennessee Director of Scouting

The PBR Tennessee Unsigned Senior Games event took place on September 28 at Rose Park in Nashville.  The event included 35 uncommitted seniors still looking for a place to continue their education and baseball careers.  The following is analysis of all Team Black pitchers from the event.  This is pitcher analysis only.  Those players who also played a position for Team Black at the event had their position player analysis featured in a previous article.

Connor Haymon, RHP, Houston HS, 2015
6-foot, 165-pound prospect uses high-3/4 arm slot with quick arm speed to generate 81-84 mph fastball velocity that has hard arm side run, curveball has very tight spin with 11/5 shape and sat at 72-74, though struggled briefly with command at the beginning of his outing, he quickly settled in to turn in one of top performances of the showcase. Solid prospect that could benefit from a second off- speed pitch. One to follow in the coming months.

Nikko Warmus, RHP, Houston HS, 2015
6-foot, 175-pound prospect uses shorter arm action through high-3/4 arm slot, fastball sat 81-85 mph with arm side run and throws for consistent strikes, repeatable delivery with minimal effort, smooth rhythm, attacks hitters and pounds the zone, throws a 68-70 mph curve that showed 11/5 and 10/4 movement at times. Intriguing prospect that shows good demeanor and mound presence. Good frame with plenty of room to fill out and improve strength.

Kyle Schmitt, RHP/OF, Wilson Central HS, 2015
6-foot-1, 170-pound prospect shows good make-up, and tempo, over the top arm angle with loose arm action, quick arm speed, hides the ball well and sneaks up on hitters, fastball was straight at 79-82 mph, 11/5 curveball that sat 73 mph with good arm speed, easy effort on delivery to the plate, still developing a changeup to add to his arsenal.

Justin Neal, RHP, Riverdale HS, 2015
6-foot-3, 205-pound prospect turned in a solid showing. Big, soild frame with the potential to continue to gain strength, challenges hitters with fastball that sat at 78-82 mph with arm side run, showed ability to attack the zone, good secondary pitches that he can throw for consistent strikes, uses a sharp, 68-70 mph 11/5 curveball thrown at near fastball arm speed as out pitch, solid changeup that has sinking action and sat at 73 mph.

Charlie Gill, RHP/OF, Harpeth HS, 2015
6-foot-0, 187-pound prospect is full of potential. Loose arm action from ¾ to high-3/4 slot, one of the top registered fastball velocities of the showcase sat 82-85 mph with some arm side run, change-up was 75-76 mph with good arm speed and sinking action. Though not a finished product on the mound, his size, velocity and easy delivery make him an intriguing prospect on the mound.

Jacob Millay, RHP, Lebanon HS, 2015
6-foot-3, 175-pound prospect showed flashes to be an effective pitcher. Features a 75-77 mph fastball that he can throw for consistent strikes and has good arm side run, sharp 63 mph 11/5 curveball at near fastball arm speed, easy effort guy with repeatable mechanics. Projectable frame with more velocity potential with added size and strength to his frame.

Jackson Arnold, SS/RHP, Lebanon HS, 2015
6-foot-0, 145-pound prospect uses long high-3/4 throwing motion with a release that appears to deceive hitters, fastball has run and was 76-80 mph, initially had trouble locating his 58-60 mph curveball that has good 11/5 shape, but settled in as he progressed, also throws a 63-65 mph changeup that showed promise to be an effective pitch for him.

Christopher LaFever, LHP/OF, Upperman HS, 2015
5-foot-8, 185-pound prospect uses shorter arm action through a high ¾ slot, generates 73-77 mph velocity with his fastball, two-seamer showed some arm-side run, four-seamer showed late cutting action, throws more of a slurvy type breaking ball that sat 61-64 with 2/8 movement and good arm speed, change-up was 65-69 with near fastball arm speed arm side run and sink. Consistently throws strikes.

Matthew Westberry, RHP/2B, Eagleville HS, 2015
6-foot-0, 140-pound prospect uses medium arm action through high-3/4 arm slot, throws consistent strikes with fastball that sat 75-77 mph, change-up was 67-69 mph and an effective pitch for him to use, curveball still needs to continue to improve, shows tendency to throw across the body , but was effective in throwing strikes and getting hitters out.
