The following is a look at the Team Maroon pitchers who participated in the event. This is pitcher analysis only. Those players who also participated as a position player at the event had that performance featured in a previous article.

Grant Phillips, 2016, Ezell Harding Christian, RHP
6-foot-3, 180-pound right handed pitcher with a good athletic frame, fastball sat 84-86mph with very good arm side run to it. Phillips showed a good change up that sat at 70mph with good downward sink to it. He also showed a good 11/5 late breaking curveball at 71-72 mph, all pitches coming from a ¾ arm slot. Phillips stayed low in the zone and fielded his position exceptionally well, had three strikeouts and gave up three hits in three innings pitched for the maroon team. Phillips committed to Tennessee Tech following the event.

Tyler Wagner, 2016, Smyrna, LHP
The 6-foot-4, 220-pound left handed pitcher with a large frame, drop and drive type delivery with minimal effort, showed a fastball that sat at 78-81mph, four-seam fastball showed some cutting action while two-seamer produced some arm-side run. Wagner also showed a sweeping curveball that sat at 63-65mph from his ¾ arm slot giving it a 2/8 break. Wagner worked both sides of the plate well and stuck with the fastball/curveball mix with two strikeouts and two hits allowed in two innings pitched for the maroon team.

Seth Wyse 2016, Ezell Harding, LHP
The 6-foot-1, 160 lefty with a lanky, athletic build uses long arm action through a high-3/4 slot, arm is deceptively quick, delivery has some effort, produced a high rate of ground balls. Wyse’s fastball sat at 78-80mph with good arm side run. He also showed a curveball that sat at 68-69 mph coming from a higher ¾ arm slot giving it a 1/7 break. He does a good job of attacking hitters in the strike zone and gave up two hits in two innings pitched with one strikeout for the maroon team. Wyse has the potential to add more velocity and is an interesting LHP from the 2016 class.

Baylor Steelman, 2016, LaVergne, LHP
The smaller 5-foot-8, 145-pound athletic lefty woks through a high-3/4 slot with quick/clean arm action,  fastball sat 78-80mph and varied between some cutting action and arm-side run, curveball varied between 12/6 and 1/7 action at 70-71 mph which was harder than at previous event, he showed a change up which sat 67-69mph with good downward action and throws it with good arm action.  Steelman had three strikeouts in two inning pitched only giving up one hit for the maroon team. Though considered undersized, Steelman has shown good arm strength and pitchability. It would not be surprising to see additional velocity out of the lefty.
