Unsigned Senior Games: Team Navy Catchers and Outfielders

The PBR Tennessee Unsigned Senior Games took place on October 11 at Vol State and afforded uncommitted seniors from around the state the opportunity to showcase their abilities in a combination showcase/game play event.

The following is a look at the Team Navy catchers and outfielders who participated in the event. This is position player analysis only. Those players who also participated as a pitcher at the event will have their pitching performance featured in a subsequent article.

Catchers

Robert Tyson Beach, 2016, Bearden, C
The 6 foot 1, 170-pound prospect posted a 7.00 60 time and had a 73 mph position velocity from behind the plate. Defensively Beach shows short arm action, accuracy, average arm strength, soft hands receiving the ball, has quick footwork, clean exchange with a quick release and had a 1.91-2.03 pop times. Offensively, Beach shows above average bat speed from the right side and had an 86 mph exit velocity off the tee. He hits from a balanced setup with a leg kick and aggressive stride, has average overall balance, level path, fluid rhythm, has an aggressive approach at the plate and shows some pop to the pull side. Beach went 0-for 3-during game play.

Landen Beyer, 2016, Hardin Valley Academy, C
The 6 foot 1, 190-pound prospect posted a 7.65 60 time and had a 71 mph position velocity from behind the plate. Defensively, Beyer has short arm action, accuracy on throws, average arm strength, soft hands receiving the ball, fluid footwork, clean exchange and had 2.04-2.13 pop times. Offensively Beyer has average bat speed from the right side and had a 78 mph exit velocity off the tee. Beyer hits from an open setup, has a long stride, good use his lower half, good overall balance, level bat path, line drive type hitter with gap to gap power potential. Beyer went 0-for-3 during game play.

Outfielders

James Mathews, 2016, Roane County, OF
The 5 foot 9, 140-pound prospect posted a 6.96 60 time and had an 81 mph positon velocity from the outfield. Defensively Mathews has long arm action, some accuracy on throws, loose and athletic arm with solid arm strength, athletic actions and plays through the ball well. Offensively Mathews has average bat speed from the right side and had a 76 mph exit velocity off the tee (79 at previous event). Mathews hits from a balanced setup, has a short stride, uses his lower half,  loads back with good rhythm, level swing path, line drive type hitter uses all fields.  Mathews went 0-for-3 during game play.

Darin Keller, 2016, Tullahoma, OF
The 5-foot-11, 155-pound prospect posted a 7.22 60 time and had a 74 mph position velocity from the outfield. Defensively Keller shows loose arm action, some accuracy, average arm strength, fluid footwork and moves well, soft hands with clean exchange. Offensively Keller shows above average bat speed from the left side and had an 80 mph exit velocity off the tee. Keller hits from a balanced setup with a leg kick involved, involves good lower half torque in swing, aggressive approach, wraps some in load but gets through the zone with hand quickness, line drive type hitter. Keller went 0-for-3 during game play making contact in each trip to the plate.
