Unsigned Senior Games: Team White Pitcher Analysis

The PBR Tennessee Unsigned Senior Games took place on October 11 at Vol State and afforded uncommitted seniors from around the state the opportunity to showcase their abilities in a combination showcase/game play event.

The following is a look at the Team White pitchers who participated in the event. This is pitcher analysis only. Those players who also participated as a position player at the event had that performance featured in a previous article.

Winston Cannon, 2016, Upperman, RHP
The 6-foot-3, 200-pound right handed pitcher has a strong athletic frame, woks through a ¾ to high-3/4 slot, arm is quick and athletic, fastball  sat at 85-86mph and topped out at 87mph, works bottom half of the zone well, showed good command of his changeup with good arm side run to it at 74-75mph. Cannon showed a curveball with a tight spin and sharp break that sat  71-72mph. Last pitch he showed was a slider with a 10-4 sharp break to it that sat at 77-78mph. He showed good swing and miss type stuff during his outing with eight strikeouts in three innings pitched for the white team. Cannon committed to Tennessee-Martin following the event.

Logan Fields, 2016, Smith County, RHP
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound right handed pitcher has a strong athletic frame, uses shorter arm action through a ¾ arm slot, regular effort in delivery,  fastball sat at 82-83mph with his ¾ slot producing very good arm side run, likes to run fastball in on right-handed hitters, curveball sat at 68-69mph with 11/5 action located consistently at the bottom part of the zone, also showed a change that sat 71-73mph with some sinking action to it. Fields gave up no hits and had two strikeouts in 3 innings pitched for the white team.

Blake Gay, 2016, Station Camp, RHP
The 5-foot-10, 163-pound right handed pitcher shows an athletic frame. Works through a ¾ arm slot with regular effort, aggressive hip turn, works slightly across body, fastball sat 79-80mph with occasional arm side run, showed a solid, sharp breaking 11/5 curveball at 70-71 mph thrown with good arm speed,  stuck with the fastball/curveball mix, Gay influenced a high ground ball rate through his outing and commanded both sides of the plate well. He gave up two hits in two innings pitched with a strikeout for the white team.

Trevor Roof, 2016, McKenzie, LHP
The 6-foot-1, 210-pound left handed pitcher works through a high- ¾ arm slot with minimal effort. Roof‘s fastball sat 71-74mph with occasional arm side run to it. He also showed a slower curveball with gradual 1/7 action and some depth at 56-57mph. Roof stayed low and away for the most part during his outing, missing barrels well and producing  ground ball outs. Roof gave up two hits in two innings pitched for the white team while showing the ability to throw consistent strikes.
