Unsigned Senior Spotlight: Left-Handed Hitting Catcher Jacob Telli

By Doug Hall
Tennessee Director of Scouting

Jacob Telli, C, L/R, Pope John Paul II HS, 2015telli

At 5-foot-7, 160 pounds, Telli has a compact and athletic build and had an impressive showing at the inaugural PBR Tennessee showcase on Sunday at Station Camp High School.

Telli began his day by showing decent speed for the catcher position by posting a 7.35-second 60-yard dash, but it was his arm strength that opened some eyes.   He recorded pop times that ranged from 1.86-1.97, and while there was some inconsistent accuracy in his throws to second base, there was no denying the 80 mph arm strength he showed from behind the plate.  He features a quick glove to hand transfer and has a short quick release from a high 3/4 arm slot.

At the plate, the left-handed hitter features a balanced set up and smooth load with a leg kick. He took a solid round of batting practice where he showed a good approach in squaring the ball up.  Telli is a line drive hitter with some gap power who shows the ability to make hard contact to all fields, and he registered the second best exit velocity of the event at 85 mph.
