Tennessee Fall ID: Quick Hits

KNOXVILLE, TN - The Prep Baseball Tennessee Fall ID was held on Sunday, November 17th at Lindsey Nelson Stadium in Knoxville, TN. Players went through an extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, ran the 60-yard dash using Swift Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to get numbers and metrics on TrackMan during simulated innings. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing at the event.

Rhett Persell: Persell had one of the more impressive rounds of BP that our staff has seen since this past summer at the Futures Games workouts, the Lincoln county product showed impressive present strength. Having an average exit velo of 95 and a max of 100 as he worked gap to gap with line drives, he would also light up the Blast readings with an average of 75 mph of bat speed.  An impressive athlete, Persell ran a 7.18 60 yard dash and was also up to 87 across the infield. A currently uncommitted junior, he launched himself onto our radar and is one to keep an eye on this spring and moving forward. 


Ethan Scheel: The sophomore out of Brentwood launched himself onto our radar at an explosive first look. He was impressive all over the field all afternoon at the Tennessee Fall ID, getting things started off with a bang as he was 87 from the outfield. He then followed that up by being 86 from the infield with clean and confident actions working to both sides of his body. He then would show 75 mph from behind the dish to the tune of a 1.95 poptime with low liner throws on target. However, he would not be done, however, with a very loud round of BP that saw him light up the Blast sensor with a ridiculous 36 G’s of rotational acceleration and a max of 75 mph batspeed. A high physical ceiling to boot and you have a very enticing prospect going forward. 


Cy Stephens: Our staff got another great look at the Oak Ridge product that is committed to Walters State. The two way prospect was active early as he showed a 87 arm out of the outfield with athletic throws that show promise for more velocity to come. He would carry that over to a loud round of BP that saw him flirting with 100 mph exit velos and plus batspeed as well. Off the mound he was up into the mid 80s, topping 85 with a sharp breaking ball. We have seen the fastball firmer in the past, but with it being late November, he is probably do to some arm down-time. Stephens looks to be a big part of an Oak Ridge team that made it to Murfreesboro for the 4A state tournament, and is returning a large part of its key pieces. 


Brody Waller: We got a very good look at the junior out of the Christian Academy of Knoxville in Brody Waller. The left handed arm and right handed bat brings a very physical 6’2 and 210 lbs that has solid athleticism at his size. He had a very loud round during BP where he showed the ability to create natural loft within his swing. We got a first glimpse at his very solid arm during infield where he was 86 across the diamond from first base, he would continue that into his bullpen where he would top in the low 80’s, which at this point in the fall, paired with his INF velo points to MUCH more out of the southpaw come the spring. 


Jackson WIlson: On a cool fall afternoon in the foothills of Tennessee, the junior from Father Ryan brought plenty of heat on the diamond. Still very lean in his 5 '11 frame, Wilson would feature a low 7 second 60 yard dash, and an event best 89 mph across the infield. He was impressive during his round of BP with great bat to ball skills with the present ability to drive the ball to either gap. On the bump Wilson would live in the low 80’s with great feel for a sweeping slider, it would not be a shock at all to see him flirting with the mid to high 80s come highschool season. Still very raw physically, he has the tools to do special things on the field as he looks to add size and strength. 

Maddox Moffitt: The current sophomore at Powell comes in with some compact strength at 5 foot 10 and 165 pounds, while still showing plenty of promise of growth in the profile. The left-handed bat did a really impressive job of staying on plane well, while working up the middle to the pullside with hard hit line-drives. Showing 23 G's of rotational acceleration, Moffitt turns well in the box that should produce more power as he matures, however already showing low to mid 90's off the bat. The arm strength should continue to progress but overall, shows the right ingredients in the makeup that left me intrigued for his development.
