1A State Bracket

Windsor
The Dukes finished as the Conference 41 runners-up, losing the Championship game to Chincoteague. Windsor entered the Region tournament as the number three seed on power points and proceeded to bash its way through the tournament, winning the 1A East Championship game in a route over Rappahannock.

Fort Chiswell
Fort Chiswell is the Conference 46 Champions and the 1A West Region runners-up. The Pioneers are 19-4 this spring, with only one loss coming to a 1A opponent, the Region Championship game to Eastside. Fort Chiswell went undefeated against Conference 46.

The Pioneers have a deep rotation that has been a key to the team’s success all spring. Fort’s rotation has been led by senior Bryson Booher (Concord) with help from Chance Davis, Dallas Beasley, and Tanner Bailey.

Eastside
Eastside is the Conference 48 and 1A West Region champions. The Spartans are 17-7 on the season with big wins including defeating Conference rival J.I. Burton three times and wins against Honaker and Fort Chiswell.

The Spartan rotation has been anchored on the mound by junior lefthander Austin Smallwood, who no-hit Honaker in the Region semifinals. Smallwood has nine wins this spring, and has struck out 109 batters in sixty innings this spring with an ERA under one. Eastside’s offense has been led by sophomore Dakota Moore and Logan Austin, both of whom are hitting over .400 for the season.

Rappahannock
Rappahannock has overcome a 3-4 start to the season to win the Conference 43 Championship and finish as the 1A East runners-up while posting an 18-7 overall record. The Raiders upset 1A East top seed Chincoteague to clinch their State Tournament berth. Rappahannock has been led on the mound this spring by a trio of arms: Devin Sisson, Derek Wiseman, and Brandan Whaley. Sisson has also helped pace the offense, along with Kaleb Self

Our Staff Picks:
Sammy Serrano: Fort Chiswell
Jon Kaufman: Fort Chiswell

John Nolan: Booher and Smallwood have been spectacular all year, its hard to pick against them in the semifinals. I think we will get a rematch of the 1A West championship game, with Fort Chiswell defeating Eastside.
