On July 22nd and 23rd,  Prep Baseball Report Virginia/DC hosted the 2017 Top Prospect Games at English Field on the campus of Virginia Tech.  Some of the best 2017's in the Commonwealth showcased their skills for various colleges and the PBR staff. 2017 TOp Prospect games: Corner infield analysis

Stephen Gerade, 1B, T.C. Williams, 2017
Hit from a tall, open stance.  Good rhythm in hands.  Smooth load back with a short stride that got on line.  At time struggles to get back to center.  Front foot strides open.  Average lower half.  Sits on backside.  Quick bat that had an exit velocity of 86 MPH.  Level swing path with good extension.  Line drive hitter with pull power.  In the field, threw from high ¾ arm slot that was short and quick.  Throws had some accuracy.  Positional velocity of 69 MPH.  Average hands with clean footwork, but was slow at times.  Clean exchanges and played through the ball.

Logan Gibson, 1B, Fluvanna County, 2017
Hit form a balanced, tall stance.  Slight load back with with short stride stride that stays on line.  At times had a slight bar arm.  Front foot opened on stride.  Fluid rhythm.  Lower half exploded to the ball.  Explosive bat speed.  Bat exit velocity of 88 MPH.  Great approach to the round.  Swing path was level with good extension.  Hitter with pull power.  In the field, threw from a long, loose high ¾ arm slot.  Throws had some accuracy.  Positional velocity of 73 MPH.  Average hands with slow feet.  Fielded on heels.  Clean exchanges.

Michael Kranzburg, 1B, Reagan (NC), 2017
Hit from a balanced, athletic stance that looks strong.  Slight load back with a short and controlled stride that stays on line.  Average lower half turn to the baseball.  Rhythm was stiff at times.  Balance maintained throughout swing.  Quick hands with a bat exit velocity of 88 MPH.  Level swing path that works uphill through extension.  Line drive swing with gap to gap power.  In the field, threw from a quick, short high ¾ arm slot.  Throws had some accuracy.  Positional velocity of 70 MPH.  Average hands.  Footwork was heavy and slow.  Clean exchanges.

Ronald Payne, 1B, William Monroe, 2017
Hit from a wide, tall stance.  Slight load back with no stride, heel up/down.  Average lower half turn that drifts to his front side.  Average balance.  Bat exit velocity of 83 MPH.  Good approach to the round.  Short, level swing path with extension.  Average rhythm.  Line drive hitter with pull power.  In the field, threw short, high ¾ arm slot.  Throws had some accuracy.  Positional velocity of 77 MPH.  Average hands.  Quick, clean footwork that plays through the ball.

Timothy Stephan, 3B, Highland, 2017
Hit from a balanced and athletic stance.  Smooth load back.  Slight leg kick stride with inward turn with his knee.  Stride stays on line and balanced.  Good lower half turn to the ball.  Balanced throughout swing.  Quick hands with bat exit velocity of 84 MPH.  Good approach to the round.  Level swing path with extension.  Line drive swing with gap to gap power.  Rhythm a little robotic at times.  In the field, threw from a long, loose ¾ arm slot.  Throws had some accuracy.  Positional velocity of 82 MPH.  Soft hands with quick, clean exchanges.  Fluid footwork that worked through the ball.  Showed some athleticism with his footwork.

Adam Seal, 3B, Powhatan, 2017
Hit from a crouched stance that was open.  Good rhythm in hands.  Sits on backside in stance.  No load back with a short toe-to-heel stride that gets back on line.  Average lower half turn.  Stays balanced throughout swing.  Bat exit speed of 87 MPH.  Bat path was long at times, but stayed level.  Line drive hitter with gap power.  In the field, threw from a high 3/4 arm slot with a long arm action.  Average arm strength.  Showed soft hands on occasion.  Footwork was average.

Austin Yogi, 3B, Amelia County, 2017
Hit from an athletic and balanced stance that was slightly open.  Good rhythm in hands.  Loads back with an arm bar.  Slight leg kick stride that gets on line.  Average lower half turn.  Balanced maintained.  Bat exit velocity of 82 MPH.  Level swing path with extension.  Line drive hitter. Really go the barrel through the zone.  Was a productive hitter during games.  In the field, threw from a high ¾ arm slot was a long arm action.  Showed soft hand and average footwork.  Showed slightly above average arm strength with some carry across the diamond.  Footwork could be cleaned up.  Hands worked well at the position.
