In early August, Prep Baseball Report VA/DC updated and expanded its Class of 2018 Rankings, going from 130 players to 180 while also moving players that were ranked based on what we have seen at our events and on the road scouting all spring and summer. Now that the rankings have been released, we will begin to take a closer look at them in today's spotlight:

SCOUTING REPORT

5.4.17: Fitzgerald has an athletic frame and is very strong. At the plate, has a pull approach with some power potential, narrowly missed hitting a home run into a strong wind in his second at-bat. Athletic stance, short stride on line, short level stroke with some batspeed. Behind the plate, between inning pops were 2.16-2.19. Throws from three-quarters arm slot but stabs his wrist into a longer arm action. Looks stiff behind the plate, but does a good job of receiving and keeping balls in front of him.

3.31.16:  Fitzgerald has a strong frame and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short, loose arm action. His pop times ranged from 2.19-2.34. At the plate, he hits from the right side with a load back into a slight arm bar. He has a good lower half and good balance throughout his swing with above average bat speed because of how strong he is. He is a bit longer to the ball with good extension through it, generating gap power with the potential for more. Showed a good approach using the whole field.
