Hidden Valley senior pitcher Mitch Custer (Charleston, WV) battled high winds in the Titans home game against the Blacksburg Bruins Tuesday, April 5, yet remained steady in his five inning performance. The right-hander allowed no earned runs, three hits and nine ground ball outs in the 5-2 victory.

Hidden Valley struck quickly in the bottom on the first inning with two walks and a timely single by Tommy Schmidt.  The Titans exploded with three runs in the second on a Matt Whitely single up the middle, a Kale Doolan walk, a walk to Teddy Paisley and a clutch base hit by junior shortstop Cody Boone scoring Whitley and Doolan. Catcher Matt Uttermark’s booming sacrifice fly plated Boone and rewarded Custer with a four run lead.

Blacksburg junior shortstop Justin Snyder had two hits for the Bruins and three hundred pound, three sport athlete Brad Shelton pitched a scoreless sixth for the visitors. Custer picked up his second win in two starts for the Titans.
