Throughout Wednesday, July 26-Saturday, July 30, 2023 Prep Baseball Report Future Games were held in Emerson, Georgia at our LakePoint Sports Complex. For this event the various PBR staffs from around the country selected the best uncommitted rising juniors and sophomores to form teams to represent their state or region in the event, bringing well over 450 of the best uncommitted players in the United States and Canada to one four field quad for 4 days.

For this event, players from Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and DC were selected to form Team Mid-Atlantic. Players on Team Mid-Atlantic had a position player showcase workout on Wednesday and then played in three games, one per day, Thursday-Saturday, going 1-1-1 against Team Florida, Team Carolinas, and Team California. Scouts from all 30 MLB teams and well over 350 college coaches were in attendance.

Burton's Analysis

TJ Woodson SS / RHP / Hanover , VA / 2025

The Hanover shortstop had an outstanding week. He showed the world what we already knew. Very high end defender that is as consistent picking it as anyone you will find. Made a big league type of play on a side spin, capped ball from a left hander while at third base. Went to the line, backhanded it, and turned to throw out a good runner at first all in one motion. It is effortless and there are innate instincts to his defense that you simply cannot teach. The arm is average to slightly above average, but the internal clock is there and he has an advanced feel for the position that allow him to make any and every play. The offense is average, but the bat to ball and plate discipline are solid. Will ambush early in counts and that is when he is at his best in terms of quality of contact, but has the ability to work counts and turn negative counts into quality at bats. Ran a personal best 6.88 on the workout day. Getting out of the box he is a slightly above average runner, turning out multiple 4.12-4.18 home to first times, but it is when he is on the bases that he plays a tick faster. Times arms up, gets exceptional jumps, and picks the right spots to run. Cannot say enough about the IQ and instinctiveness that he plays the game with. Leader, but does it by example and not as much verbally.
