Throughout Wednesday, July 26-Saturday, July 30, 2023 Prep Baseball Report Future Games were held in Emerson, Georgia at our LakePoint Sports Complex. For this event the various PBR staffs from around the country selected the best uncommitted rising juniors and sophomores to form teams to represent their state or region in the event, bringing well over 450 of the best uncommitted players in the United States and Canada to one four field quad for 4 days.

For this event, players from Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and DC were selected to form Team Mid-Atlantic. Players on Team Mid-Atlantic had a position player showcase workout on Wednesday and then played in three games, one per day, Thursday-Saturday, going 1-1-1 against Team Florida, Team Carolinas, and Team California. Scouts from all 30 MLB teams and well over 350 college coaches were in attendance.

Burton's Analysis

Weston Lillard RHP / Highland , VA / 2025

Lanky, athletic 6-foot, 190-pound frame. Lillard has a very, very intriguing profile with standout metrics and pitch shapes. Low three-quarter arm slot, <5-foot release height, and a next level ready breaking ball. The fastball sat mid-upper 80’s, touching 89.2 mph with well above average spin rate. Lillard can get in trouble when he utilizes the upper half of the zone with the fastball. The true sinker tends to flatten out and that is where he gets hurt. When he is down in the zone he misses bats, gets weak contact, and uncomfortable swings. The slider is a little more slurvy in shape with up to 19” of horizontal movement and some depth to it as well. Lillard labels it a curveball, but with the arm slot and pitch makeup it leans a little more to a slider profile. The secondary pitch sat at 78-81 mph with high end spin (<2835 RPM). The slider has swing and miss tendencies and is a legitimate out pitch that raises plenty of interest for the right hander.
