Tuscarora lefthanded pitcher Cole Gabriele has committed to attend the University of Mary Washington in the fall of 2016. The Huskies are coming off of an up and down 2015 season that saw them finish just under .500 in a deep Conference 14 in 5A North. Tuscarora was competitive in the majority of their games and Gabriele will lead a deep group of returning seniors as they look to be a bigger factor in the postseason in 2016.

Gabriele stands an athletic 6-foot-3. He has a tall and fall delivery and throws from a three-quarters slot with a short, stiff backside arm action before a quick armstroke that generates velocity with some effort. His shoulders are level and he strides on line before landing slightly open and coming to an athletic finish. At the Pre-Season All-State Showcase in February, Gabriele commanded his fastball well and it had slight run, sitting 75-79 and touching 80. He threw an early breaking 11/5 curveball with decent armspeed that ran 58-65 and was a bit erratic. He also threw a fading change-up with decent armspeed that was a bit erratic, running 61-68.

Gabriele has the tools and physicality to offer an immediate impact for the Eagles as a freshmen, either as a lefty out of the pen or as a weekday starter. As he matures, Gabriele has the potential to develop into a conference starter for Mary Washington, which plays in the very deep Capital Athletic Conference.

Congrats Cole!
