VA Scout Blog

The Virginia/DC Scout Blog provides insider information and scouting notes from the PBR Staff. This running blog will feature information on a wide variety of uncommitted talent as well as updates on committed and ranked players, as well as draft prospect. We will provide a wide range of information, including player evaluations, velocity, pop times, home to first times, and more. This running blog is continuously updated throughout the high school season and then also throughout the year and you will see what boots-to-the-ground really means.

State Scout blogs are one of the most highly viewed pages on the PBR website. It is a tribute to our never ending quest of discovering talent across our area of coverage and our boots-to-the-ground approach to scouting.

So what is better than being in a scout blog? Having a PBR profile to connect you with. Find our next event near you.

Virginia/DC Event Schedule

Midlothian

Camdton Furman RHP Midlothian 2019 (Randolph Macon)
Projectable frame with room to add some weight and strength. Works at a quick pace, getting the ball and is ready to go pitch after pitch. Has repeatable mechanics with normal effort. Lands on line and has above average arm speed throwing from a three-quarter arm slot. Fastball sat at 82-84 for all 5 innings and touched 85 twice early on. Curveball got some swings and misses on the day. The breaker showed a 11/5 shape with some depth and sat at 70-72. Changeup showed feel and some late diving action. The change sat at 74-75 and had fastball arm speed and intent. Had times where he struggled to find the zone, but showed solid maturity stepping off and regathering before coming back to attack hitters. Showed three solid pitches that he threw for strikes and even featured a few changeups to righties. To add to his importance on this Midlothian, Furman can swing it as well. Hits for power from a narrow upright stance. Had the game ending double about 10 feet short of the left field wall.

Carson Fuller DH Midlothian 2019
Strong frame starting his stance square with a small pickup and put down. Barreled the ball up all three at bats with one of them being a laser to the left centerfield fence for a double. First at bat lined out to right field and Fuller's third at bat had a single to shallow right center. Showed hand strength and a raw physicality offensively. Could be an important part of a Midlothian team that will benefit from added offensive threats.

Logan Smith C Midlothian 2019 (Randolph Macon)
Although the box score may not show it Smith showed well offensively on the day. The 2019 catcher committed to Randolph Macon had three solid at bats showing aggression, solid timing early in the season, and a feel for the barrel. Had one hit on the day, a hard groundball back up the middle, but made some other hard contact on the day that did not get through. Smith's last at bat ended in a hard, loud line drive to the 3B. Behind the plate showed nice receiving skills, turning some borderline pitches into strikes. Throws showed carry between innings with a quick exchange.
