The Miller School Mavericks defeated the Steward Spartans 3-0 behind a two-hit shutout from the arm of 2018 RHP Stuart Barrett (George Mason).

The Mavericks got the scoring started in the second inning. Jeremy Wagner (Duke) drove a single and Henry Hardie knocked a double to left center to put two in scoring position. Wagner would score as the next hitter would reach via an error to make it a 1-0 ball game. Steward starter Harrison Clifton (Clemson) would get out the jam only giving up the one run.

After Barrett cruised through the T3, the Mavericks leadoff hitter Jack Marshall created Millers second run of the game all by himself. He got a hit up the middle, stole second, then stole third, and scored on the throw to third that went into left field to give Miller a 2-0 lead.

The Maverick again would score their final run in the fifth frame. Adam Hackenberg would lead off the inning with a single to left field then the Maverick brought in courtesy runner Wilheilm Stafford. Stafford would eventually move to third, and later score on a wild pitch where a late break to the plate looked to have had him out on the play, but the flip to the pitcher sailed into the infield as the Mavericks took a 3-0 lead which would be the eventual winner.

Barrett kept the Steward offense quiet all day as the lanky 6-foot-6 righty only gave up two hits on the day. He did however, give up four free bases (three walks, one hit batter), but made key pitch after pitch when needed along with stellar defensive play from the Maverick defense.

Clifton pitched very well for Steward keeping the Spartans in the game as Steward committed five errors. Clifton scattered eight hits against the Maverick offense, and only one run of his three given up was earned.
