SCOUTING REPORT

VA/DC Scout Blog 5/23/18

First, Cmeyla has been playing out of position this spring with Rosales entrenched as Briar Woods' catcher. He has caught two games that reportedly went well. In this game he played second base, where he looked smooth, fielded with a wide base and soft hands. Clean exchange and looked comfortable, he looked like it was a position he has been playing for years. At the plate, Cmeyla had a monster night. Showed batspeed and strength at contact as well as barrel ability, squaring the ball up in all four at-bats. Showed ability to adjust mid-swing. In the video below, his first swing was a on a two strike pitch, kept his hands back and adjusted to a curveball to single to right center. The second swing was a double to left-center on a fastball early in the count, and the third at-bat was an RBI situation where he again attacked a fastball that was up early in the count to triple to deep right center. Cmeyla has gap power to all fields present already and there is plenty of projection left in his frame, very mature approach at the plate. He has a chance to grow into home run power to all fields and could end up as one of the best bats in Virginia in the 2020 class.

Preseason All-State 2/17/18

Cmeyla is 5-11 with an athletic frame. A switch hitter, from the right side, hits from an open athletic stance. Big leg kick stride, good rhythm, smooth load back to an arm bar. Explosive lower half. Longer path, but bat gets through zone quickly, works uphill with extension, shows power potential to pull side. From the left side, hits from a similar stance that is a bit more square and balanced. Leg kick stride closed, wraps a bit in his load. Good lower half rotation, shorter swing path, more of a line drive gap to gap type swing. Best exit velocity was 91. Behind the plate, quick clean release that is consistent and simple. Throws from three-quarters arm slot with a short, quick arm action that is fast. Strong arm, position velocity was 82, pop times were 1.99-2.03. Good wide stance receiving, sways body behind ball well, drops quickly into block. Soft hands receiving. Has some speed, ran a 4.44 home to first.

6.21.16:  Cmeyla is 5-8 and has a lanky frame. He is a switch hitter, from the right side he has an open stance with a leg kick stride and a load into a wrap. Fast bat that works uphill with extension and an opposite field approach with a line drive stroke. Fluid swing and exit velocity of 80 from the right side. Exit velocity of 78 from the left side, where he has an open stance and a pull approach. In the infield, he has a short, loose arm action and a low three-quarters arm slot with some accuracy, positional velocity of 74. Fluid footwork and a clean exchange as he plays through the ball. Behind the plate, short, loose arm action from low three-quarters arm action, positional velocity of 71. Clean, quick exchange and pop times running 2.15-2.22.
