Scouting Report from the Top Prospect Games:

Northington stands 6-foot-2 and has an athletic frame. He throws over the top and has a short arm action. His delivery is smooth and he strides out on line before landing closed. Northington’s fastball sat 73-75, touching 77 without much movement. He threw a 12/6 curveball with gradual breaking action to it that came in at 62-65. He showed good command of both pitches.

Northington hits from and athletic/balanced stance. He has a short quick load, shift of weight to the backside was evident, and he has a short stride that maintained balance to create a short, line dive stroke. He has really good hands and a gap-to-gap approach, utilizing the entire field. His exit velocity was 86 mph off of the tee. In the field, Northington had average feet and soft hands. Moved better to his glove side. He showed good actions and presence and moved instinctually at third base.

Meet Banks Northington

PBR: At what point in your career did you become serious about taking your game to the next level?

Northington: After a tournament in the fall of 2009, I was riding home with my dad and we started to talk about playing in college. I wanted to take the next step in the game I love and I also wanted to put in the work for my new goal.

PBR: What are you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?

Northington: The first thing I am looking for in a college is whether or not it will set me up for life after baseball. It is my dream to play professionally but if that doesn't work out, I want to have a solid education so that I can be well prepared for life.

PBR: What schools do you have interest in?

Northington: Georgia Tech, Virginia, William and Mary, College of Charleston, Furman, Miami of Ohio, Wake Forest, JMU, Radford, Davidson and Clemson. Ideally I would like to stay in the southeast region, a Division I school.

PBR: What factors will sway your decision in choosing a college?

Northington: The factors that will sway me are academics, coaching staff, team and facilities.

PBR: Where if any have you made visits to?

Northington: I have visited Georgia Tech, Clemson and Davidson not as a baseball recruit, just as a student interested in the school.

PBR: What colleges have you been in contact with?

Northington: I have been in contact with Georgia Tech, Radford and VMI.

PBR: Do you have any timetable as to when you are looking to make your decision?

Northington: I hope to be committed in the near future, but to the school that is right for me

PBR: What do you do in the off-season to keep yourself in baseball shape and prepare for the upcoming season?

Northington: I do a team workout at a baseball facility in my area. I also continue to hit everyday during the winter. I lift 3-4 times a week.

PBR: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

Northington My most memorable moment has been my 12 year old all-star season in Little League when we came in 3rd in the State.

PBR: How are your academics?

Northington: I finished my sophomore year with a 3.7 GPA, taking all honors and a few AP classes.

PBR: How was your high school season last year? Team record? Post season awards? Stats?

Northington: We had a great coach who taught the game the right way. Unfortunately, we struggled as a team throughout the season. Personally, I had a great season and learned a lot from Coach Humphries and my game improved as a result of playing for him. I made Second team All-Conference 23 at 3rd Base.

PBR: Preview your high school season? How will your team be this year? Expectations?

Northington: We have a very thin and young program. We have a new coach this year, and he is working with the players to develop their off-season workout program. As far as I know, this is the first time the team has had an off-season workout program. Our team will be better because of this, and I am looking forward to the season.
