Scouting Report

8.9.17:  Elder is 6-2 with an athletic frame and a stronger lower half. Hits from an open stance, short stride closed, short smooth load back into a bar. Some hip explosion, good balance to swing. Level line drive swing, pull preference, some extension through the ball, exit velocity was 83. In the outfield, gets behind ball, plays through it to a clean exchange. Throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short free arm action, outfield velocity was 84. Ran a 7.32 60 yard dash. On the mound, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short, quick arm, drop and drive delivery and some effort. Shoulders are level and closed, lands slightly closed, athletic finish. Fastball was 79-82 with late sink and run. Showed sinking change in warmups with some armspeed. Curveball was 74, thrown with good armspeed and hard 11/5 break. Has feel for his command of all three pitches.

7.15.17:  Elder has an athletic frame, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action. Shoulders level and closed, lands slightly closed with a fall off finish. Fastball had downward plane to it and sat 81-83, touching 84. Change-up had late run and good armspeed at 78. 12/6 curveball had late break, backed up occasionally, pitch was thrown with good armspeed at 72-76. Also hits from right side and has some batspeed and a short swing with gap power potential.

6.1.17 - Projectable body with some length. Pitched 82 -84 for Great Bridge with later life on his pitches. Shows great command of his change up with late fade and fastball arm speed. Showed command of breaking ball and used that more as a show pitch using a nice combination of his fastball and change, keeping hitter off balance.
