Take a look at ten fresh faces to the VA/DC 2023 class.

Cameron Nelson OF / LHP / Pro 5 Academy VA, VA / 2023

The VA/DC staff's first look at the Wake Forest recruit came on Tuesday afternoon. To put it mildly, Nelson was impressive. In his first at bat he took a two strike offering through the right side where he pulled up on a 4.4 turn at first. Later on he unloaded on a fastball for a line drive single up the middle. In between these at bats he jumped on the mound for the final two innings and got up to 93, showing off an electric arm.

Jacob Bunch C / Grassfield, VA / 2023

We saw Bunch in the spring and the physicality matched with his athleticism was really intriguing. The Coastal Carolina commit really put it together this summer. He had an outstanding week in front of our staff and the Chanticleers' staff at 17U National Championship. Offensive corner infielder/catcher with big arm strength and present power at the plate.

Evan Smith LHP / 1B / Pro5 Baseball Academy , VA / 2023

Smith had arguably the best pitching performance our staff saw at 17U National Championship. Moved it in and out, spun it for strikes, missed bats and barrels, and was in command throughout his entire outing. Will be interesting to see who picks up this steal of an arm this late in this recruiting cycle.

Conor Smith RHP / OF / Riverside , VA / 2023

Smith was one of the better arms at Upperclass State Games in June. Easy, whippy arm that was up to 87 and showed feel for secondary. Most importantly, Smith shwed some pitchability and potential starter profile.

Owen Buckley RHP / 2B / Loudoun Valley, VA / 2023

6-foot-3 frame with projection left. Has some rawness on the mound and has some ceiling left and polish to add. Up to 88 and the simply put, the fastball was different. Some effort and intent to the delivery and the fastball flat out missed bats. Another intriguing uncommitted NOVA arm.

Trent Adelman 3B / OF / Pro 5 Academy VA, VA / 2023

Physical athlete with advanced bat and hand speed at the plate. Flashes some power in the swing and the arm strength to play third. Corner/corner with the power to help drive in runs in the middle of an order.

Hank Shield OF / LHP / Collegiate , VA / 2023

Shield is a potential two-way player who has really seen a jump on the mound in the velo department. Was up to 87 in front of our staff this summer. Has flashed some power at the plate and is a sneaky good defender in the outfield.

Owen Ambrose 3B / RHP / Fredericksburg Christian , VA / 2023

Ambrose's bat has really jumped out to our staff. Syncs up well at the plate, has flashed some power to the pull side, and is a better in game runner than watch-runner. Offense first profile with energy and a higher motor to his game.

Jacob Henry RHP / 1B / Grassfield, VA / 2023

Seems like every time we see Henry, he is one of the toughest outs on the field. Long thin 6-foot-5 frame with plenty of room to fill. For his size, Henry doesn't produce power as frequently as you would expect, but he consistently finds the barrel and space. Ability to hit for high average with a lower swing and miss rate.

Carson Cho SS / RHP / Battlefield, VA / 2023

Narrow upright stance at the plate, everything works in rhythm, and has some sneaky pop in the swing. Is more doubles threat in game, but does a nice job getting the barrel turned and shows some barrel awareness as well. Slightly above average arm strength from short.
