After last weekends VHSL State Championships, the 2018 Virginia and DC high school season has come to a close. Taking the top spot in our final rankings is St. Christopher's. The Saints are the VISAA Division I State Champions and finished the season with just one loss, to No. 3 Benedictine. Benedictine put together the most impressive collection of wins of any team in Virginia or DC this spring.
Moving up to No. 5 is the Class 5 State Champions, Prince George. The Royals had a few losses early in the season but were dominant down the stretch en route to the State Championship. Debuting in the rankings at No. 6 is the Class 6 Champs, West Springfield. The Spartans have had a good record this spring but had struggled to get over the hump of No. 7 Lake Braddock. Beating their rival twice in the last week of the season powered their State Championship run. Also entering the rankings at No. 9 is the Class 4 Champs, Salem (Roanoke).
A handful of stunning upsets early in the Region tournaments left some of the teams that were at or near the top of our rankings all season out of the State Tournament. We wanted to reward their greatness all season by leaving them higher in the rankings. Checking in at No. 10 is Liberty Christian, who was undefeated and won almost all of its games by the run rule until a Region quarterfinal upset. At No. 11 is James River, who's only loss to a team from Virginia came in the Region quarterfinals, ending their season.
Entering the final rankings at No. 20 is Page County. The Panthers are the Class 2 Champions and finished the season 28-1, with their lone loss coming in the first week of the season.
Enough talk, lets look at the Power 25 for 6/12. With this being the final ranking of the year, we expanded it to the Top 40 teams.
