SCOUTING REPORT

VA/DC Scout Blog

Athletic projectable frame. Controlled delivery with good tempo. Athletic arm action throwing from a three quarter arm slot. Creates fast arm speed with regular effort. Average lower half at best, tells me more is there just with more-lower half involvement. Fastball shows later life on the pitch with arm side run. Pitch was up to 89 mph sitting in the 87-89 range. Has reported been higher prior. Breaking ball is a plus pitch with potential. Tight spin and later life. 75 mph. Has chance to be a plus pitch. Showed change in pen, not much in game. Lot of projection as he adds to frame. Potential to be an interesting prospect.

SCOUTING REPORT

Preseason All-State (VA/DC) 2/17/18

Peyton is 5-8 with an athletic frame that has projection left to it, he hits from the right side from an open, balanced athletic stance. Short leg kick stride on line, loads down and back into a slight bar, good rhythm to his swing. Hips rotate and he has good balance to swing. Level line drive swing with extension to through the ball, stays inside well, showed good approach working gap to gap. High barrel awareness, has chance to develop extra base power, exit velocity was 83. On the infield, rounds the ball with quick clean feet, fields with a good wide base and above average hands. Quick clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, short quick arm action, loose arm with plenty of carry and easy effort, infield velocity was 88.

Peyton is a young middle infielder at DeMatha. He has a great foundation as a player with nice athletic actions and fundamentally sound mechanics. That foundation should progress as he adds strength to his frame to become an interesting middle infield prospect.

Athletic frame standing around 5-foot-11. Whitaker possesses solid arm speed and a swing and miss slider. Needs to become more efficient on the mound, as he tends to get deep in the count at times, but has the ability to be a shutdown arm for the Warriors. Starts closed and pitches primarily out of the stretch. Average balance point before sinking in the back leg and driving down the mound with shoulders level. Lands slightly closed at foot strike and finishes towards the plate. Small arm circle and throws from a high three-quarter arm slot. Fastball sat at 83-85 and topped at 86 mph, which is a tick down from the last time we saw him. Slider has fastball arm speed and intent at 75-77 mph. Needs to get ahead in order to use the slider and finish counts off sooner to keep the pitch count down, but is a nice prospect to follow this spring.

Riemer has a lanky athletic frame and is a good defender. Soft hands and quick feet in the middle infield, fields with a good base and rounds ball. Exchange is quick and arm is free and accurate. Hits from the left side, short line drive swing, can handle bat as well. Frame has a lot of projection as he adds strength.

Athletic, projectable frame. Hits from the right side, athletic, squatty set up into his lower half. Short rock back load with leg kick and arm bar to hitting position. Shows balance at the plate. Longer swing path with some bat speed at the plate, shows power potential there as well. Willingness to use whole field and drive to backside as well. Solid defender behind the dish, moved well back there and nice hip control. Quiet receiver.
