The first weekend of August, over 300 players and 150 coaches descended on Indianapolis for the annual Prep Baseball Report Future Games. This year’s games featured teams made up primarily of uncommitted members of the Class of 2018, with a few elite 2019s sprinkled in. Each State was charged with creating its own team to send to Indy, and while Virginia/DC was not able to put together an entire team this year, our representatives combined with players from North Carolina, Maryland, and Delaware to form Team Mid-Atlantic. Here is a recap of how the Virginia/DC boys did in the spotlight.

Don Goodes
Outfielder
Don Goodes, who is transferring to Greenbrier Christian, had a solid workout day on Thursday, hitting 87 from the outfield and showing his short, simple swing. He really shined during the games as he showed the ability to consistently barrel the ball with his short swing and gap to gap approach. He also got a good break on a stolen base and was aggressive on the bases, turning a single to center into a hustle double. He did a good job cutting a few balls off in the outfield and using his arm to prevent the extra base from being taken.

Camden Grimes
Hanover third baseman Camden Grimes had an outstanding workout day on Thursday, running the third fastest 60 time of the corner infielders with a 7.01. He had the top arm, hitting 90 across the infield. During game play, he hit a few balls hard but really showed his ability at third base with a pair of key plays in the second game. He reacted to deflection off the pitcher to make a barehand, off-balance throw to get the batter at first. Later in that game with two runners on, he fielded a ball a step to his left, got the force at third and then showed off his arm to finish the double play.

Kyle Novak

James Madison infielder Kyle Novak did a good job all weekend of showing what he is best known for, a short, quick lefthanded bat that uses the entire field to spray line drives into the gaps. His batting practice rounds all weekend were outstanding as he barreled balls consistently. During his first at-bat Friday, he mashed a triple over the centerfielder’s head, driving in three runs. During another bat later in the day on Friday he lined out to very deep right center.

Tevin Tucker

Our fourth and final representative was Prince George shortstop Tevin Tucker. Tucker burned one of the fastest 60 times in the workout, running a 6.71. It was the third best middle infield time and one of the ten best overall. During his defensive workout he showed very smooth actions and a ton of upside. During the games, he made sure to showcase his speed, showing that he also knows how to get good jumps off of a pitcher, stealing multiple bases in the second game. The one that was most impressive was one where he walked out to a lead off of second and was never stopped, turning that walking lead into a great jump and stealing third without a throw.
