Friday evening saw a pair of games take place in Warrenton. Collegiate traveled to Highland School and rivals Kettle Run and Fauquier squared off in the first of their two scheduled meetings this spring.

Highland tabbed sophomore lefty Brennen Card (William & Mary) for the start and Collegiate countered with senior lefty Pearse Riendeau (DePauw). The Hawks scored four in the first and three runs in the second to open up a 7-0 lead as Card fired four scoreless innings and Highland cruised to a 9-3 win. Garrett Pancione (Radford) was 2-3 with a 2B and 3 RBIs and Blagen Pado was 4-4 with a 3B and 2 RBIs.

In the second game of the evening, Fauquier started junior righty Damen Tapscott and Kettle Run went with righty Kyle Ellis. Fauquier jumped out quickly with a run in the first when Blaine Smith delivered a two-out RBI double. That 1-0 lead would hold up until the fourth inning when Kettle Run was able to turn a series of Fauquier walks and errors into a seven run rally, opening up a 7-1 lead. Kettle Run would add one more run and coast to an 8-1 victory. Ellis went 6 innings, allowing 1 run on 6 hits with no walks. Connor Adair and JJ Mulhern each had multiple hits for the Cougars.

Luke Craddock 1B / OF / Highland School, VA / 2025

Craddock has a physical athletic frame with strength present and some projection left. Hits from the right side from a slightly opened athletic stance. Simple quiet set-up, very short load back and a low leg kick stride, hips rotate completely with violence and he maintains balance throughout swing. Short and quick to ball, very strong at contact with extension through the ball. Shows present power to all fields and showed a good approach working gap to gap. The two swings in the video are lineout to deep right center that got hung up in the wind and bullet one hopper to the second baseman. Ball jumps off of his bat.

Damen Tapscott RHP / SS / Fauquier, VA / 2023

Tapscott has a lankier athletic frame with projection left to it. Simple drop and drive delivery, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, short loose arm action, some effort to his delivery. Fastball was 82-84 with some late hard run to armside that also gets a bit of depth. Slider was 72-76 with good armspeed, some shape, and sharp 10/4 break to it. Was good with control in his first three innings, working ahead of hitters and attacking both sides of the plate with his fastball. Lost his command in the fourth. Has velocity upside the the fastball/slider combination play well, making him an interesting prospect for the next level.
