Tuesday evening saw brand new program Lightridge travel to Loudoun County for a Dulles District matchup. Both teams sent sophomores to the mound, Lightridge starting righty Liam Moriarty and Loudoun County went with lefty Corey Costello

Costello worked around a threat in the top of the first, allowing a walk and a single to open the game, but then was able to get a pair of strikeouts to end the inning with no damage. County got on the board in the bottom of the first, with Sean Goodhart driving in the game's first run with an infield single. Later in the inning, Costello helped his own cause with a sacrifice fly to drive in a second run. The Captains added three more runs in the inning courtesy of a few defensive miscues and led, 5-0, after the first inning.

Loudoun County added another run in the second and then sophomore reliever Cole Lechner put up the Lightning's first scoreless frame in the third. Costello kept Lightridge's offense quiet in the second and third, adding three more strikeouts over those innings.

Lightridge got on the board in the fourth as Costello opened the inning issuing a pair of walks. After a sacrifice put two in scoring position, Moriarty singled to shallow left to drive in a run. Costello was able to end the threat there and the score was 6-1 after the top of the fourth.

In the bottom of the fourth, Loudoun County extended the lead. Blake Moon picked up his second hit of the game with a one-out single and then scored on a double off of the bat of senior Dutch DeProspero (Hood), DeProspero's second extra-base hit of the game. A few batters later, Evan Stanley singled to left, driving in DeProspero and extending the lead to 8-1.

Costello ended up going five innings and left the game with an 8-1 lead. Lightridge tried to make a run in the seventh and scored another run on a Jacob Park RBI double, but Ryan Price was able to get out of trouble and the game finished with a final score of 8-2 for a Loudoun County win.

Costello was the winning pitcher, going 5 IP, 1 R, 3 H, 7 K, 5 BB. Moon was 2-4 and DeProspero was 2-3 with a 2B, 3B, and an RBI. For Lightridge, Evan McAtor threw 2 scoreless innings of relief, allowing no hits and striking out 3. Moriarty was 2-2 with an RBI and Park was 1-3 with a 2B, RBI, and a BB.
