As we continue to wrap up the 2017 high school season in Virginia and DC, we have taken a few looks back some of the top all-around performances in the lead-up to last night's Player of the Year announcement:

Player of the Year Finalists Part 1

Player of the Year Finalists Part 2

Player of the Year Finalists Part 3

2017 VA/DC Player of the Year

Majority of those players contributed significantly as hitters and as pitchers to their teams, today we will take a moment to recognize our Pitcher of the Year and our Hitter of the Year from Virginia and DC.

Also, we did rankings by classification this spring, so there was no combined Power 25 like in previous years of our coverage. Having crowned 11 champions in our coverage area this spring, we would also like to take a moment to recognize the Team of the Year from Virginia and DC.

VA/DC team OF THE YEAR

Liberty Christian Academy
The Bulldogs captured the 4A West Region championship for the second year in a row and won the 4A State Championship. They went 24-2 this spring with one of their two losses coming to North Carolina powerhouse Wesleyan Christian and the other coming to Hanover, a loss that the Bulldogs avenged in the State Championship Game. Liberty Christian also beat Miller School early in the season, giving them a win against the VISAA Division II champions and the team that was the top private school in our coverage area this spring.

VA/DC Pitcher OF THE YEAR

Hunter Gregory RHP Hickory 2017 (Old Dominion)
Gregory earned All-State honors this spring and was the Hawks' ace again. He went 7-2 on the season, compiling a 0.51 ERA in 55 IP for Hickory. He struck out 79 batters against just 11 walks during that time.

VA/DC hitter OF THE YEAR

Dalton Jackson OF Great Bridge 2017 (Navy)
Jackson was named Conference 17 Player of the Year and First Team All-4A East Region and First Team All-State. He had a spectacular offensive season, hitting .455 and slugging .922. He had 8 home runs and 12 doubles while driving in 34 runs while helping lead the Wildcats to the State Semifinals.
