VA/DC Unsigned Senior Games: Catcher Analysis

In early August, PBR VA/DC hosted their fourth annual Unsigned Senior Games at Virginia Sports Complex. Over 60 players from all corners of Virginia took part in the event, and we conclude our analysis of those players today with the catchers.

 

 

 

Christopher Fredette C / OF / Thomas Dale, VA / 2020

Fredette is a Paul D. Camp CC commit and is 5-8 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from an open athletic stance, strides on line, smooth load back to a wrap. Hips rotate completely and he maintains some lower half balance. Keeps hands inside, short to the ball with some strength at contact and extension through the ball. Slightly uphill swing path, line drive swing with some loft built in, showed a pull approach, exit velocity was 83. Behind the plate, clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, catcher velocity was 76 and pop times were 1.98-2.13.

 

 

Adam Gantz C / OF / Hanover, VA / 2020

Gantz is 5-10 with a strong lower half. He hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, short stride on line, smooth load back. Hips rotate completely and he maintains some lower half balance. Keeps hands inside, some strength at contact. Slightly uphill swing path, showed a good approach working gap to gap, exit velocity was 79. Behind the plate, clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, catcher velocity was 68 and pop times were 2.25-2.35. Showed some accuracy with his throws.

 

 

Tristan Gordon C / 1B / Page County, VA / 2020

Gordon is 6-2 with a strong frame. He hits from the right side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, short stride on line, smooth load back. Hips rotate violently and he maintains good lower half balance. Keeps hands inside, short and quick to the ball, strength at contact with extension through the ball. Slightly uphill swing path, line drive swing with a lot of natural loft built in, showed a pull approach with plenty of power to all fields, exit velocity was 93. Behind the plate, clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, catcher velocity was 74 and pop times were 2.08-2.22. 

 

 

Jeremy Harmon C / Southampton Academy, VA / 2020

Harmon is 5-10 with a strong athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from an open athletic stance, short leg kick stride on line, smooth load back to a wrap. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Keeps hands inside, short and quick to the ball. Uphill swing path, showed a pull approach with some power that way, exit velocity was 81. Behind the plate, quick clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, catcher velocity was 73 and pop times were 1.98-2.04. Showed some accuracy with his throws. Ran a 7.43 60 yard dash.

 

 

Davis Kelley C / OF / Oakton, VA / 2020

Kelley is 6-0 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open athletic stance, short stride on line, short smooth load back. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Keeps hands inside, short and quick to the ball, some strength at contact with extension through the ball. Slightly uphill swing path, line drive swing with some power in the gaps, showed a pull approach with the ability to use the whole field, exit velocity was 90. Behind the plate, quick clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, catcher velocity was 73 and pop times were 2.02-2.15. Ran a 7.15 60 yard dash.

 

 

Jaden Keuhner C / 3B / John Champe, VA / 2020

Keuhner is a Washington & Lee commit and is 5-10 with a strong athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open athletic stance, low leg kick stride on line, smooth load back. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Keeps hands inside, short and quick to the ball with some extension through the ball. Slightly uphill swing path, line drive swing with some power in the gaps, showed a good approach working gap to gap, exit velocity was 87. Behind the plate, clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, catcher velocity was 75 and pop times were 2.07-2.09. Showed some accuracy on his throws. Ran a 7.39 60 yard dash.

 

 

Trey Lyons C / 3B / Fluvanna County, VA / 2020

Lyons is 5-8 with a strong athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open athletic stance, short stride on line, smooth load back. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Keeps hands inside, short and quick to the ball with some strength at contact and extension through the ball. Uphill swing path, showed a pull approach with some power that way, exit velocity was 82. Behind the plate, quick clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, catcher velocity was 69 and pop times were 2.08-2.18. Showed some accuracy on his throws.

 

 

Riley O'Donovan C / 1B / Bishop O'Connell , VA / 2020

O’Donovan is a Lynchburg commit and is 6-2 with a strong athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open athletic stance, low leg kick stride on line, smooth load back. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Keeps hands inside, short and quick to the ball with a strong contact point and extension through the ball. Uphill swing path, showed a pull approach with power that way, exit velocity was 92. Behind the plate, quick clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, catcher velocity was 77 and pop times were 1.96-2.14.
