VA/DC Class of 2029 Rankings: Summer Risers

As the summer comes to a close, we’re kicking off another round of rankings updates with the state’s 2029 class. After a busy summer filled with live looks across Virginia/DC, this update brings plenty of movement throughout the board while also expanding the rankings to the Top 100.
The summer offered another valuable checkpoint for this group, giving our staff extended looks at how players continue to develop physically while translating their tools into game performance against quality competition. With the fall now approaching, this update reflects the progress, upside, and overall depth we’ve seen from the class over the past several months.
Today we take a look at 5 Risers that fall inside of the Top 100 of the VA/DC Class of 2029.
CLASS OF 2029: SUMMER RISERS

Chase Hicks C / 1B / Goochland High, VA / 2029XL frame at 6-foot-2, 264-pounds. Hicks can absolutely hit. Every time our staff gets a chance to watch Hicks, he gets the barrel on the baseball. There is feel to hit, as well as power potential upside with this right handed bat. Much of the metrics set is average, but his ability to barrel baseballs, for his age/class, is not. The size and frame will more than likely move him to 1B/DH long term, but it is middle of the order, run production upside that has limited swing and miss when we have seen him.

Bryson Jones C / 3B / Deep Run High, VA / 2029The offense continues to improve and has gone to the forefront of the profile for Jones. Started on varsity for Deep Run this past season and was probably a little more sink or swim with that roll as a young catcher. Seems to have benefited from that experience, as Jones had a standout weekend at Super Sophomore versus some solid arms. Multiple hits in the three days of action, including a homerun. Long term positional fit is still TBD, as the arm strength will need to continue to improve to stay behind the plate.

Cole Norman SS / OF / Trinity Christian, VA / 2029Compact 5-foot-9, 149-pound frame. Athletic and a future above average runner. Made a statement at the plate during the VA/DC State Games with multiple hits. Hands stay tight and works in a small window with tight turns off the back shoulder. Works gap to gap in approach with doubles power and has the footspeed to stretch an extra base out of the box. High motor player with the athleticism to contribute in a variety of ways long term.

Stone Soleau C / OF / Next Level Baseball Academy, VA / 2029The track record of hitting continues to grow for Soleau, as he had a strong summer at the plate. The strength that continues to get better has helped as what were singles before have turned into more extra-base hits. He has a strong base with compact strength that can flash some impact to the pull side. It is a steeper barrel path that looks to lift the baseball. Behind the plate he has quick exchanges with average arm strength that has a chance to improve. The offense carries the profile for now with his in-game ability to hit.

Grayson Tonti OF / Hickory High, VA / 2029Long levered 6-foot-2, 167-pound frame. Good body that should hold strength and added weight well. Evenly distributed setup at the plate with a smaller lift and stride forward to a slightly wider base. Slightly above average hand and bat speed at the plate. Does a nice job staying inside at contact, working the middle and backside of the field with backspin and some future power projection from gap to gap. Hit over power right now with the physical makeup and athleticism to project potential ability to stay in center or left.
