Future Games Q&A - '23 Sebastian David (Lakeside)

Dan Jurik
Scouting Director - Pacific Northwest

The top 2023 grad in Washington and a national level prospect, Sebastian David (Lakeside) had a tremendous summer and topped it off with securing a commitment to Stanford in early August. On the way to landing his commitment, David had a loud performance down at LakePoint, GA for the 2020 Prep Baseball Future Games.

David first got onto our radar back in the summer of 2019. At the time, he showed advanced strength & athleticism for his age with actions and intent that projected well for future development. Less than a year later, David had made a huge jump in his overall game and  earned an invitation to the 2020 PBR Future Games. The invite-only event is our biggest national event of the year. It brings together the top uncommitted Fr. and Soph. from all of the territories we scout.

He joined a squad of uncommitted 2022 and 2023 players from Washington and Oregon down at our LakePoint complex for the 3-day event. It was the first time a roster from the Pacific Northwest has ever been to the Future Games.

David got things started off with a strong, well-rounded performance at the workout day. Showcasing added strength at the plate with an aggressive, line-drive approach during BP. Consistently worked the middle of the field and showed off gap-to-gap power. Defensively he had one of the best INF arm strengths at the event, registering 86 mph from across the diamond at SS. He carried everything over into game action and had arguably the most consistent performance on the Pacific Northwest team. Not only did he produce multiple hits over the 3 games played, he maintained a keen eye at the plate with quality strike-zone discipline, drawing 3 BB while not striking out once. He also kept things exciting on the bases and took extra bags at will. Defensively he was sure-handed at SS and his athleticism plus feel for the game should keep him on the dirt long-term.

Here’s what he had to say about his recruitment process and some personal goals moving forward…

future games Q&A

2023 SS SEbastian David (Lakeside)

PBR: What was your initial reaction when you got down to Lake Point and the Future Games began?

SD: I was really excited to play against some really good competition and be a part of the Pacific Northwest Team. The Lake Point Complex was amazing and I really enjoyed playing there.

PBR: You made your commitment to Stanford shortly after the Future Games? Can you talk about your recruitment timeline and how that process went for you?

SD: Prior to the Future Games, I was in contact with several schools through the NorCal coaches for a number of months. The Future Games allowed coaches to watch me play live online against strong competition. I was really fortunate to receive the opportunity at my dream school in Stanford and committed shortly after the Future Games.

PBR: What has your baseball schedule been like once you committed?

SD: Since I committed, I have played in some tournaments with NorCal and continued to work on my speed, strength, as well as fielding and hitting.

PBR: Is there anything specific you’re looking to improve or develop this off-season?

SD: I am looking to improve my speed in fielding and on the base paths. In hitting, I have been working on pull-side power and proficiently driving the ball to all fields.

PBR: What aspect of your game are you most proud of and why?

SD: I am proud of my work ethic and ability to work on things that I need to continue to develop. My work ethic has kept me ready to help my team.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher from Washington you’ve ever faced?

SD: JR Ritchie (Bainbridge/UCLA commit)

PBR: Favorite MLB baseball player and why?

SD: My favorite player is Derek Jeter because he was a great leader. “There may be people with more talent than you, but there’s no excuse for anyone to work harder than you do.” - Derek Jeter

PBR: What advice would you give to young players who may be uncommitted right now?

SD: Keep working hard for your team and trust in your process. Having a consistent schedule or routine for the different aspects of your game I think is really important and has helped me become a better player.
