Outfielder Double Up

Nathan Rode
National Supervisor

WASHINGTON—On our third day in the Pacific Northwest, we doubled up on two top outfielders in Corbin Carroll (Lakeside School, WA) and Josh Mears (Federal Way HS, WA). After a quiet Monday, we saw Carroll barrel a couple balls on Wednesday. He was hit by a pitch in his first at-bat, but tripled to left-center field and singled through the right side in his next two. He has elite speed and had a 4.3-second home-to-first time on a turn. After the hit by pitch, he stole second and third base with ease.

After Carroll, we went to Enumclaw HS, WA, to see them host Federal Way. Mears looks like a linebacker with his big, physical build. He remains raw, but his strength is unquestioned. He was 0-for-3 on the night, getting caught out front on a flyout in his first at-bat. He grounded out in his next at-bat, getting down the line in about 4.3-4.4 seconds. He was intentionally walked in his third at-bat and struck out looking in his fourth. During pregame, he showed an average arm from right field.

On Thursday, we’ll be in Corvallis, OR, to see Oregon State host Arizona. LHP Brandon Eisert (Oregon State) will start for the Beavers and we’ll also get to see C Adley Rutschman (Oregon State), SS Beau Phillip (Oregon State), SS Cameron Cannon (Arizona) and 3B Nicholas Quintana (Arizona). All are on the recently updated PBR Draft Board.
