Federal Way, WA  - Last time we saw ‘20 RHP Tyler Hoeft throw, the cold, foggy and damp weather made for difficult conditions. On this look, the sun was out and temperatures were in the low 60s, much more ideal for commanding a baseball. While the mechanics and actions were similar to what we’ve seen, there was a noticeable uptick in his pure stuff. FB velocity held at 87-89 throughout and peaked at 90 in the 1st. Had some issues with command throughout, walking 5 across 6 innings, but countered that by only allowing 1 hit. The life/movement on the FB allows him to work to the middle of the plate without having to be too fine. Missed a lot of barrels and avoided giving up any hard contact due to the consistent late action on his FB. Although he didn’t need to use his secondary pitches often, the CB had improved bite and sharpness to its 10/4 shape. Velo held between 71-74. Also flashed an occasional CH at 79-80. Overall it was an impressive showing for the Washington commit that demonstrated his ability to bounce back and make adjustments from start to start.

‘19 OF and Purdue commit Josh Mears continued to flash premium bat speed and hammer baseballs. There’s some rawness to his offensive approach but the upside is considerable. Not many prepsters out there can match his raw power.

Decatur

It was a tough day to get a look at Decatur, as they were held in check by Hoeft for most of the day and only had 1 hit across 7 innings. But two players in the middle of the diamond stood out in particular. 

‘20 Brady Houston, SS, L/R
6-foot, 165 pounds with wiry, athletic frame. Stood out right away during I/O with his quick, athletic fielding actions and strong arm. Light on his feet with a quick first step. Flashed consistent control of his glove hand while moving laterally. Quick, short arm action that produced consistent carry on the ball. Plays with noticeable energy and bounce in his step. At the plate, hits from a wide, open stance. Hands stay quiet and loaded in a strong hitting position throughout. Smooth, left-handed swing. Utilizes hips/lower half to create quick bat speed. Patient approach at the plate with consistent strike zone discipline. Promising INF prospect.


‘19 Divine Ayemere, OF, R/R, Central Washington University commit
5-foot-8, 150 pounds. Strong, compact frame with a proportional build. Quick, athletic actions in the OF. Light on his feet with short strides when tracking the ball. Throws from ¾ arm slot. Throws stayed on line with accurate ball flight. Didn’t get a lot of strikes to work with at the plate on this look. Went 0-1 with 2 BB, showing a mature approach and the ability to recognize spin. Flashed a quick, athletic swing. Worked short and direct to the ball. Contact approach with minimal lift as he finishes. Capable of spraying contact from line to line. Aggressive runner on the bases. Looked to constantly swipe bags and advance when given the opportunity. Exciting player who could be a table setter towards the top of a line-up. Committed to Central Washington University.
