RHP/3B Mitch Voit (2022; Michigan commit), out of Whitefish Bay High School, has been selected as the 2022 PBR Wisconsin Player of the Year. The two-way star led Whitefish Bay to a 25-3 record, conference championship, and a sectional appearance in the 2022 season.

This season marked Voit’s first time playing for his high school team since his freshman season, and he did not disappoint. The Michigan commit was a staple in the middle of arguably the best lineup in the WIAA, which featured five Division 1 commits.

At the plate, Voit finished his season with a stellar .566 batting average, where he combined to have 11 doubles, two triples, and five home runs. Those loud numbers led to Voit a 37 RBI season for the Blue Dukes and 27 of those came in 18 conference games, where he had the most among all NSC players. Those offensive power numbers left Voit with a 1.461 OPS by the end of the season.

The former PBR Super 60 participant was even a threat to opposing teams on the basepaths, as he finished with 25 stolen bases on the season. Speed and power were common traits assigned to Voit during the year, but it wasn’t just for his productive offensive numbers.

Voit began his season as the opening day starter for Whitefish Bay in the cold, dreary month of March in Wisconsin. The weather didn’t seem to affect him though as he threw a 5-inning no-hitter against Greenfield, where he struck out 12 out of the 16 batters he faced, and walked one. He also had three hits on the day, and led Whitefish Bay to a 15-0 win. This was just the beginning of the dominance Voit would impose throughout the year for the Blue Dukes.

While the first game of the year was Voit’s only no-hitter, it was one of five complete games that he had. He ended his senior season with an 11-0 record, tied for the most wins in the WIAA in 2022, and a 0.54 ERA, finishing the season with 87 strikeouts in his 53 ⅔ innings of work. Throughout the season, Voit was looked to as this team's ace and for good reason as Whitefish Bay would bring home a win every time Voit would make an appearance on the mound.

His final outing of the season may have been his best. In the sectional semifinal, he took on a Homestead team that had upset Whitefish Bay earlier in the season. Voit flipped the script and did what he had done all year, dominate. In seven innings of pitching, Voit struck out 10 hitters, and only allowed three hits and two walks. As he did to begin his season, he threw a complete-game shutout. This time though, he advanced his team to the sectional championship, where they eventually came up short to a Menomonee Falls team that advanced to the state semifinals.

As Voit enters the University of Michigan next spring to play baseball, we’re excited to see where his future takes him, as he finished one of the most dominant seasons on both sides of the ball we have seen in the Badger State.
