DE PERE, Wis.—The De Pere Redbirds took down crosstown foes West De Pere 5-2 in a non-conference tune-up game on Friday afternoon.

The Phantoms gave several starters the day off and sent out some of their reserves to get some experience. In the end though, the seasoned De Pere squad was too much to handle.

Two walks and a couple of stolen bases put runners on second and third for West De Pere in the top of the first, but Redbird pitcher Max Kuehn managed to escape the threat unscathed.

Hunter Staniske gave De Pere the lead in the bottom of the frame with an RBI single, and a sacrifice fly by Brandon Patz extended the lead to 2-0 later in the inning.

A balk by Phantom pitcher Cam Shovald allowed another De Pere run to score in the bottom of the third and an error brought around another to give the Redbirds a 4-0 lead through three innings.

West De Pere started to rally in the top of the fourth. Sam Hendricks knocked an RBI single to plate the first run of the game for the Phantoms, and Robert Shuckhart drove in another run with an RBI single of his own later in the inning.

De Pere added another run in the bottom of the fourth via an RBI double by Carson Jacques. The run made the score 5-2, which held up until the end of the game.

Kuehn got the win on the mound for the Redbirds. He worked four innings and allowed just two runs on four hits, five walks and four strikeouts. Tyler Webb pitched a shutout throughout the final three innings.

Shovald took the loss for West De Pere. In 2.2 innings, he allowed four runs, walked seven, and struck out three. Daniel Paulson and Shuckhart went 1.1 and two innings, respectively.

The Redbird offense was paced by Staniske and Jacques, who both went 2-for-4. Michael Seabrook went 2-for-3 for the Phantoms.
