Q&A With Marian Commit: Steven Lindsey

By Steve Nielsen
Scouting Supervisor – Wisconsin/Illinois

Steven Lindsey (Indian Trail, 2016) recently stood out at our Unsigned Senior Showcase and ranked as one of the top corner infield prospects. After the event Lindsey recently committed to Marian University and answered a few questions for us about the recruiting process.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it as expected? Easy/Difficult?

Lindsey: My expectations to be honest were set high. You know Division 1 school, club, all turf field, etc. But as my college search went on both my parent and I fell in love with the thought and idea of Marian.

PBR: What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?

Lindsey: Mostly I was looking for a winning team, somewhere where I felt could lead to becoming a better baseball program. A place where I felt comfortable, and also a place where I feel my abilities were needed and utilized as a team effort.

PBR: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?

Answer: The location definitely played its role. I believe that Marian is located in a great area, not too far but not too close. Like all kids they want to get away.

PBR: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Was there a particular game or event that you feel turned the corner for you?

Lindsey: The recruiting process really started to heat up after the Unsigned Senior Showcase. Every college that contacted me after that event had very high interest in me, which made my decision very challenging.

PBR: Where did the college you chose first see you? How did your relationship develop with them?

Lindsey: Marian first saw me at the Unsigned Senior Showcase. The relationship developed from a simple email, to me visiting, to Coach Bartelt and I texting for check-ups, coming up for another visit.

PBR: What do you like most about the college you committed to and what were the key factors in making your decision?

Lindsey: What I like most is the fact that it feels like home there, and that the coach was really open to helping me through the recruiting process.

PBR: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?

Lindsey: I would have to say UW-Milwaukee, Lindenwood University-Belleville, St. Mary’s, and UW-Parkside.

PBR: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?

Lindsey: Probably not to stop trying, there's a place for you to become part of a baseball program. Just depends on how hard you want to work to get there.

PBR: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

Lindsey: Definitely winning conference last year with my high school team.

PBR: Preview your high school season for us. How do you feel your team will be? What are your expectations and goals?

Lindsey: Well we hope to win conference again, and getting back to the semifinals game. The best thing for us to do as we did last year is take one game at a time.
