2014 Team Preview: Frankfort HS

As we prepare for the upcoming 2014 high school season, we will be taking a preseason glimpse at programs from around the state.

Nickname: Falcons
Class: 2A
League: Independent
Head Coach: Matt Miller
2013 Overall Record: 17-15 (Lost in regional finals)

TOP PLAYERS:

Cole Smith, C/2B, Class of 2014 (Honorable Mention All-State 2013)
Hunter Jenkins, SS/RHP, Class of 2014 (All-Area Hon. Mention 2013)
Braiden Popluhar, RHP/IF, Class of 2015 (All-Area 1st Team 2013)
Gage Shaffer, RHP/1B/DH (.338 hitter in 2013)

SEASON OUTLOOK:  

If the Falcons are to reach the regional finals again they will have to do so without their top two pitchers from a year ago. Catcher Cole Smith will be looked to for leadership following two consecutive All-State seasons.

ACCORDING TO THE COACH:

The team will be a mix of experience and youth. Our top three hitters return from last season and we will have depth at most positions. We will be replacing our No. 1 and No. 2  pitchers, however our No. 3 from last year will be a junior and has shown great improvement over the summer months. We should have several guys who can get outs on the mound. We hope to win our section and seriously compete in the regional.
