Junior Spotlight: OF Austin Norman

By Greg Williams
WV Director of Scouting

Austin NormanAustin Norman is an athletic OF with the potential to be a game changer. The 6-foot, 175-pound left-handed hitter showcased his potential with two triples in Fairmont Senior's Class AA state semifinals win over Bridgeport. Norman tripled to right center field in his 2nd at bat and then to dead center field in his 3rd at bat.

He also showcased his foot speed with an infield single in the state title game two days later with a 4.15 home-to-first time. Norman also shows athletic actions in the outfield and above average arm strength.

The left-handed throwing prospect will need to cut down on his strikeout total and improve on his ability to put the ball in play with two strikes. Norman finished state tournament action going 3-for-9 at the plate with a single, two triples and five strikeouts.

Assuming he continues to develop offensively, Norman possesses the tools necessary to be an outfielder to follow in the Class of 2014.
