Scouting Report
Baumgardner seems to get better everytime we see him. This event, he entered as a two way prospect instead of pitcher only. Showed good athleticism by running a 7.26 - sixty. Equally or more impressive, he displayed a 84 mph arm out of the OF, which was an event best. He rounds the ball exceptionally well and displayed on target throws. Offensively, he started in a spread stance, and displayed a quick stroke and was able to find barrels consistently. On the mound, his velocity was down a tad, but i contribute that to summer baseball. He displayed a FB with arm side run at 82-83 mph. His SL sat 59-60 with considerable break to go with a CH at 64-67 with fade at the plate. Overall, Baumgardner is one of the top overall prospects in the class and won't be available much longer.
2.24.19 - On the mound, the 6-foot-2, 200-pound primary Pitcher worked out of a 3/4 slot. His FB sat 84-86 mph with good arm side run. His SL shows serious potential to be a put away pitch at 71-72 mph and 10/4 shape. His CH has good life and solid deception at 74-76 mph. He uses his bottom half well to get down the hill, along with a quick arm action toward the plate. Overall, Baumgardner is very impressive on the mound, and will be a highly sought after pitcher in the 2020 Class.
11.18.18 - The 6'2 200-pound RHP worked out of a 3/4 slot. FB sat 84-85 and touched 86 mph with good arm side run. His SL shows potential to be his put away pitch at 70-72 mph. His CH has life and good deception at 73-76 mph. He uses his bottom half well, to go along with a quick arm action toward the plate. Baumgardner's arm and athleticism make him a high follow in the 2020 class for West Virginia.
10/8/17 Working out of a high 3/4 arm slot FB sat 82-83 and showed subtle arm side run. SL at 67-68 mph was best pitch on this day with 11-4 shape, tight spin and late, sharp break. CH at 74 mph was commanded well with considerable depth and fade. Baumgardner would benefit from more aggressively connecting glove hand/elbow to front/hip as well as driving chest over front knee. Baumgardner remains interesting follow in class of 2020
6/13/17 Baumgardner pitched out of a high 3/4 arm slot with a short arm action and repeatable delivery. There is tendency to step close and block hips with associated first base fall. Baumgardner showed a quick arm on FB 81-83 with arm side run and sink. CB 69-70 with 10-8 shape, good depth and bite. CH was thrown at 71-73 with little movement. Arm strength and secondary offerings make Baumgardner interesting follow in class of 2020.
2/24/18 On the mound works out of mid 3/4 arm slot with excellent balance, rhythm and utilization of lower half. Mechanics of delivery are much more efficient and lower effort than when last seen. Mechanical improvements translated to excellent command to all quadrants of zone of three pitch mix. FB sat 84-85 mph with late run and sink. CB at 73-76 mph demonstrated 11-4/5 shape with late, sharp sliderlike break. CH at 73-76 mph was thrown with good sell and considerable fade/sink. Athleticism and quick twitch skills are reflected in recorded 4.22 home to first time.
