Region Preview: Class AA - Region II

With the start of the high school season less than a month away we will be previewing each region in each classification statewide. In addition to a look at the top teams we will also highlight some of the top prospects in each region.

                 Class AA - Region II

Preseason Favorites

Bridgeport (30-7) / Petersburg (22-9)

Bridgeport returns 11 players from last year's varsity roster that won the region and advanced to Charleston. Petersburg will have quality pitching and a strong offense at the top of the order and could push the Indians for this year's title.

 

In the Hunt

Frankfort (17-15)

If the Falcons are to reach the regional finals again they will have to do so without their top two pitchers from a year ago. Catcher Cole Smith will be looked to for leadership following two consecutive All-State seasons.

 

Brian GeorgePreseason Player of the Year

Brian George, LHP/OF, Petersburg HS (Class of 2015)

George is a 6-foot-3, 180-pound LHP/OF from Petersburg HS. He went 6-3 as a sophomore in 2013 after missing his freshman season due to injury. George sits in the low 80s with command and can run his fastball up to 85 mph. The lefty is ranked No. 5 in the WV Class of 2015 and announced his verbal commitment to Penn State last fall. George had a strong fall playing with the Allegheny Pirates based out of Pittsburgh.
