Region Preview: Class AAA - Region IV

With the start of the high school season less than a month away we will be previewing each region in each classification statewide. In addition to a look at the top teams we will also highlight some of the top prospects in each region.

                 Class AAA - Region IV

Preseason Favorites

Hurricane (25-4) / Cabell Midland (24-11)

The pair have been in a dog fight recently for supremacy in Region IV. Cabell Midland has ended the Redskins' post-season in three of the past four years, including a 1-0 region semifinal win in eight innings last year. Both teams return the majority of their starting lineup from 2013 and appear to be on a collision course for a berth in the state tournament again this year.

Kinker2Preseason Player of the Year

Seth Kinker, 3B/RHP, Cabell Midland (Class of 2014)

Kinker gets the nod over a large group of talented players in this region. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound 3B/RHP is an impressive two-way prospect headed to Ohio State. Kinker's abilities were on full display at last year's state tournament. He went 0-for-4 at the plate on Friday (semifinals), but followed that up with a 4-for-4 day in the championship with a double, a run scored and an RBI. In the semifinal game he pitched a complete game, two-hitter with eight strikeouts. He sat 83-85 all evening and registered a strikeout on an 86 mph fastball to end the game.
