Senior Spotlight: C Tate Brock

By Greg Williams
WV Director of Scouting

The Hurricane Redskins are the defending West Virginia Class AAA champs and have three seniors that will be heading off to major college baseball programs next fall. Shortstop Trey Dawson is headed to LSU, right-handed pitcher J.T. Rogoszewski will be a North Carolina Tarheel and catcher Tate Brock will be staying in state to suit up for the West Virginia Mountaineers.

The three teammates are currently ranked No.3, 4 and 5 in order in the WV Class of 2015 rankings, but it is Brock that has been the driving force behind the Redskins' (24-4) march towards a repeat trip to Charleston for the state tournament. The 6-foot, 190-pound right-handed hitter leads Hurricane in nearly every offensive category. Brock is currently hitting .528 with 14 doubles and six home runs. He has been a run producing machine driving in 42 runs on the season, 22 more than the next closest Hurricane hitter.

Brock leads a potent Redskins' offense that is hitting a combined .317 on the season in a total of eight offensive categories heading into the postseason. The future Mountaineer leads the Redskins in hits, doubles, home runs, RBI, walks, batting average, on base percentage and slugging percentage. The senior backstop also captains a solid Hurricane defense that is fielding at a .935 clip. He has committed just one error on the season and his sub-2.0 pop times limit opponents running games every night out.
